I've been asking my dealer when he was getting an auto in. I test drove a GT manual last week. I wanted to compare the stick vs auto.
So dealer tells me he has an EB no PP in ruby red with auto and redline interior. I just got back from the drive.
First points: I like the ruby red a lot. It was overcast today and the color looks dark but still has an elegant look. I like the redline but don't love it. It just seems too bright red for my tastes. The stitching on the dash and shifter boot is a darker red and looks great. The seat insert are just too bright red for my tastes. My wife liked them a lot thought. I wish the seats and door panels were a shade or 2 darker red. I think they would look good with both the ruby red and magnetic.
I had lots of legroom in the seat as I did the manual I drove before.
Now for the bad. I started out in normal driving mode. The throttle was sluggish and the shifts mushy. Just like my Taurus. Changing to sport+ mode greatly improved throttle response to more of what I would expect. However keeping the shifter in D I found myself fighting the transmission in gear selection. I would shift with the paddles and it would shift when it felt like it. The shifts were moderately quick. I found them suitable for the car. But I just couldn't get used to the tranny doing what it wanted.
At one point I was in 3rd gear slowing to make a turn. As I began the turn I shifted down to 2nd BUT the tranny had already shifted to 2nd and my shift brought us into 1st instead. In regular traffic in sport+ mode with the shifter in D the transmission would shift up and down hunting for the right gear.
I found the 2.3 EB to be peppy enough to be enjoyable. I thought the sound was ok. Something to get used to if you're coming from a V8. I couldn't really run it hard as the salesman was with me.
Overall the car was ok but for now I'm favoring the manual. There are times when you want to be more in control and times when you want to be less in control but in both case the auto just left me wanting.
I scheduled another drive when the get a GT in with auto. Not sure if it'll change my mind.
