The only thing im on the fence about is the IAT's. Thinking of selling my JLT for Airraid.
I was seeing 140+ Iats on a 92degree day here in texas.
Do you know what they were with the stock intake in the same conditions? My IATS are typically 7° over ambient in a moving vehicle with the stock intake.

I experience the same, 143 @ 99* weather during local driving. Once on the freeway temps dropped to 110. Keep in mind, I opened up the blocked ports on the grill and I blocked off the cut out on the shield against the tube (a bit abstract to explain, lol). I sealed the front inlet since it deformed from heat and tend to fall foward preventing proper fresh air flow and allowing engine heat to enter the heat shield. Next is to insulate the heat shield. I honestly think the Ford Racing CAI is a bit better finished and the plastics are a bit denser preventing the tube from heat soaking as much.

Again, do you know what the delta was before replacing the stock intake? In 90° ambient temps I've seen 127° IATs in traffic with the stock unit.

Makes me wish I had a Lund tune for the stock setup so I could provide some results for that.

Yeah, that sounds pretty much the same as me at that temp. I don't think is any worse than the factory, but I did take some steps to make it work like factory. It didn't perform this well before.

With the factory box back in i have not seen over 125 on a 100 degree day sitting in traffic.

I'm almost positive the JLT would be pulling timing most of the time and the stock box rarely, as most tunes are set to pull timing around 110 degrees.

Not trying to psuh anyone away from the JLT, I would have probably kept mine if I lived in a cooler climate. Keep in mind I am in Texas where it's hot as crap.

The tune actually pushes the safety line a bit further, Lund has the fans come on earlier, and the OE tune tends to pull timing when the cats reach a certain temp and is definitely not optimized for when 93 Octane is used (at least not at its best). Not only that, but the throttle is also much snappier and you the car doesn't run out of juice as it does with the OE box closing to the redline which I have set at 7300 and it loves it. Again, I had to perform some DIY to the CAI to get it to work at its best.

im going to run stock airbox with k&n filter and airraid mit. i wont have as much horspower as the jlt but ill be happy even if i dont have the highest dyno numbers. i wil get my throttle body ported and polished also.

The airaid imo is comparable to the JLT when the venturi insert is removed...a tune is required when you remove said insert though. I will monitor the IATs today & possibly track test this thing. Stay tuned!

Most of the time? Hardly.....

As I just drove our 2015 back from Mustang week on a 95+ degree day, the highest temps I seen was 125 crawling in traffic. The temps dropped quickly at anything over 15mph.

I seen 3-5 over ambient in fresh air and 7-9 in tighter traffic at speed.

What I have to say really is when sitting in traffic and seeing those high temps when are you ever going to need all of the power? Sounds like a silly question, but you're not going anywhere anyway LOL. For your everyday guy getting stuck at stoplight or two I really only saw a 8-12 degree jump in temp sitting at a standard 2min light, which dropped quickly leaving it. The stock box will heat soak in traffic also as stated, difference is it's slower to build temp but also slower to lose temp.

Another thing I noticed is the ambient reading also increased(3-5 degrees) quickly sitting at a light or traffic.

Also if the computer is pulling timing, say 2 degrees at 130, I still imagine the setup is making as much if not more then the stock box for that short time. There's still a 12-15whp power gain in the just intake alone, get to 15-20mph once and you've backed the temps back down.

This discussion is in a dozen threads by now and I'd be willing to bet most never looked at these temps until they modded their cars.

I'm pretty sure the insert is no longer removable for the 2015. They changed that if I recall correctly.

No the insert he's talking about is the one inside the tube on the air raid.

I have the JLT CAI and when moving down the road the inlet air temp is between 2 and 5 degrees above the ambient. Idling or in slow moving traffic it may get as high as 10-12 degrees above the outside air temp but quickly drops back down once you are moving. It will be 40 or 50 above if the car has been sitting after having been run for awhile but will quickly drop down once you are moving.

This is the same as the stock box and the JLTs performance is what you would expect since it connects to the same air inlet as the stock box and receives forced air flow from the openings in the grill which comes in below the filter and flows up and out the top.
