So I just installed the JLT CAI. A couple of observations and some questions . First the black coating that’s in the air cleaner housing has some small bubbles in the paint. I hope overtime small pieces won’t break off and go into air intake. Quality could be better for the price they are charging .
I have a few questions .

1)The IAT sensor has a small right angle tabthat holds it in place on the stock air box , hence why you need to twist it.On JLT , it’s just a grommet. That tab Prohibits it from going all the way into the grommet. It looks like it can fall out. Is the normal?
2) the black plastic piece that fits inside the air box that pushes against the air inlet on the front grill doesn’t go all the way in. I thought it would fit over the stock air inlet for a tight fit but this seems to just butt up against it on the bumper side and the other side is held in place by resting against the air filter. Is this correct ?
3) there was a vacuum tube fitting in the box for the JLT pipe, is this just an extra one? It looks the same as the factory.
4) some people complained about their hood not closing or the box trim not lining up. How can I tell if it’s making a good seal.

1) The JLT grommet should be tight enough.
2) The air inlet insert needs to be pushed further towards the bumper. It should not be touching the filter. You may need to dry fit the insert into the air box a few times or there is plastic molding flash in the way. You should have 1/4” or less sticking inside the air box.
3) The included nipple is an extra one in case the pre-installed nipple breaks on the JLT inlet tube.
4) I have no indentations on the rubber seal that some others have experienced. The hood has faint dust marks where the rubber seals against it after running it for a few days. I believe poorly fitting seals/air box fitment is the result of not moving all of the electrical harnesses and tubing out of the way before bolting the air box down.

I’ve had no issues with the JLT intake. Hood and fender fitment has never needed any adjustments, but I could see using the rubber bumpers to adjust the hood height on a different vehicle. Every car will be a little different.

Regarding respond to question 1 . Are you sure that’s normal ? In the pics I see on the internet there is no right clip in the pics . Are people taking the grommet out and skipping it over the sensor and then putting it back in the JLT pipe ? Also what should be the positing of ther sensor ? The pics people have the sensor looks rotated 90 degrees from how I have it but my sensor is perpendicular to the pipe not parallel

I just pushed the sensor in until the JLT grommet was close to the rolled-up OEM o-ring.

Did you put the ring above or below the right angle plastic piece on sensor plug?

Here’s how mine is installed, notice they purple wire on top. I don’t recall how that’s oriented inside but it’s done per instructions and I’ve had zero issues.

Here is the intake snorkel, it should sit like this when installed. It’s a pain in the ass to get it seated correctly but with time and patience it’ll go.

And here is the total product.

So how did you install that sensor ? I don’t see the right angle clip ?

also, what’s the red covering over the filter ?

The red cover is a pre-filter. It will stop larger items from clogging up the cotton filter. It also offers a slight water resistance.

I will take photos when I get home from work later this afternoon.

I see it’s sold separately , does it hamper performance / air flow?

No. The pre-filter was developed for Baja racing, if I remember correctly. That’s intense performance.

I don’t know what right angle clip you’re talking about, mine didn't come with any clips.

See this pic. Its the clip that hold the sensor in place on the stock air pipe. Thats why you must rotate it when removing. That clip prevents sensor from seating all the way in the grommet.

I circled it in red.
