Hi guys, I am quite a n00b when it comes to engines, but the sound that my EB makes in low gears is quite irritating. My dealer told me that this is probably normal. Can you please have a listen?

This sound occurs on the 1st and 2nd gears. You can start hearing it (but the gopro does not pick this up) around 3k rpm, then it goes on varying the loudness level till about 6k rpm. It is like if the fan in the air vent is grinding against some hard plastic. But it comes from the engine and it is rev dependant. The most you can hear it (on the video) is a short peak when you rev up the 1st gear and then press the clutch. Almost like a turbo blow-off, but grinding and not very pleasant.

Can you please listen to the videos and tell me if this is really normal? Each video has a time in the title where this occurs. Sorry for the noise in the right ear, the GoPro mic is a crap.

Nope, not normal
Thanks! I thought so... I hope someone will have an idea what to look for. My dealer is completely useless.

Like I mentioned they told me it is normal and I should wait till they have another EB so they can compare. :frusty::doh::paddle:

Can somebody get Deysha in this thread so this customer can be properly documented and taken care of??

Since your dealer is screwing you for now, the best thing you can do is keep a notepad and document when it happens, outside temperature, if it changes, etc.

And keep taking videos and keep posting here so you have evidence.

Watchout I had this same noise at 4 months of owning the car, and well the engine blew, dealership told me that it was that the piston rings did not seat properly from factory/incorrectly installed. I would say get a compression check done on the engine just to be safe.

Thanks guys, I am visiting my dealer today, they have another EB car now so we can compare and they cannot deny it anymore. Hopefully... I will keep you updated!

Guess I'm taking mine to the dealer. Makes similar noises before it warms up and sometimes after the fact too.

Like I just mentioned to another member in the PM, At first I noticed the noise it one or two times on a cold start, but within a 1000km's it was always there. It is stronger when the engine is cold but now it progresses and can be heard in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. My dealer was supposed to call me back yesterday, but they did not. I think it's easier for them to let me fuck up the engine completely till it blows in a ball of fire. Then they will probably acknowledge that something might be slightly wrong, but we need some other car to see the difference.

I am probably the only person on the planet who seriously hates their mustang, but I really think buying an American made car in Europe was a stupid idea. In 5 years from now, maybe, but now the dealers are useless and the car's build quality is very low compared to a $20000 Focus. Sorry guys, don't mean to offend anyone, but this is what my car is. This issue is only one of many I have.

Unfortunately most of our dealers will be useless in 5 years too. All cars I had, dealers was useless for the entire period I had them  (not specific to Ford, all brands)

I hope someone could solve your problems!

I've heard this on every MT Ecoboost I've seen including mine. I don't know what it is but I don't actually think it's bad.
