And don't forget the Ford emblem on the windshield by the rearview mirror. Clearly it's a Ford Mustang S550 Shelby GT350 Cobra. Jesus. The End. Please.Ford is on the wheels of the 350's
Don’t forget the 99-04 SVT Cobrasits a shelby. cobra refers to the "AC Cobra" back in the 60's..
currently cobra is just a character inside the shelby badge. not sure if this makes sense lol
I was at Shelbyfest last year (http://shelbyfest.net/) and Gary Patterson, President of Shelby, stopped by to look at my 2017 GT350. I asked him if it was a real Shelby or a Ford Mustang GT350. He said, "Carroll Shelby was aware of the Ford Program and approved of what FoMoCo was doing. Yes, it's a Shelby." I'll take his word for it. But, no, IMHO, it's not a Cobra.I have a hard time even referring to it as a "Shelby" - usually just refer to it as a Ford or Mustang GT350. Not like Carroll was around to have anything to do with it and I'm not familiar of any SAI involvement - but maybe there was.
Now you have it!It's all about the $. Let's face it, the name Shelby sells cars!
If someone was lucky enough to get their hands on one of the 36 Competition R models back in 1965 the list price from SA was $5,950.^^^^^^^ Suggested list price $4537..... wow
What did they run in the 1/4?If someone was lucky enough to get their hands on one of the 36 Competition R models back in 1965 the list price from SA was $5,950.
If you couldn't get your hands or could not afford one of the competition cars you could try to secure one of the 8 GT350 Drag cars ('65/'66) for $5,441 plus $200 for an AFX lift kit and $90 for a .450 lift cam.
The '65 GT350 Drag cars came with a 5.13 ring and pinion but was reduced the follow year in '66 to only a 4.86 rear end ratio!:eyebulge:
I believe these cars held the AHRA record for the B-Production class!
The best 1/4 mile time for one of these factory drag cars that I am aware of was a 12.68 turned in by Gus Zuidema at Lebanon, New York. Don't recall his top end speed but would guess around ~110 MPH.What did they run in the 1/4?
Ken Miles' best at Road America racing a GT350R was 2:45.... a current 350R can do it in the low-to-mid 2:30s with a decent driver and no special prep. And, it can be driven home when the day is over. The best 1/4 mile time for one of these factory drag cars that I am aware of was a 12.68 turned in by Gus Zuidema at Lebanon, New York. A stock GT350 back in 1965 was running a 14.5 second quarter mile at 98 MPH.
;)
If Ken Miles was with us today and still in his prime I could only imagine what kind of times he would post in one of these new generation R models.:first:Ken Miles' best at Road America racing a GT350R was 2:45.... a current 350R can do it in the low-to-mid 2:30s with a decent driver and no special prep. Golden days, for sure.
