IS THE 2016 SLOWER?

"Fast" is a relative term.

In the late 90's when the SN95 "New Edge" GT's were banging down low 14 second passes stock..when a LS1 Fbody would hit low 13's or high 12's in bone stock form in great air...that was REALLY FAST.

Now when a base GT hits 12.8 at 112 MPH on it's first pass...that's slow.

Compared to the rest of the automotive world...the 2016 Mustang GT is still a very fast car. In comparison to the performance car world...it's still a fast car.

In comparison to the *Super* performance car world (C7 Z06's, GTR's, etc)....it's a slow car.

In 2007 when the Charger SRT8 and Challenger SRT8 came out with 425 HP for less than $38,000...people were impressed. Look at reviews from that time.."425 rip roaring horses" etc etc...now 425HP is "weak" and "disappointing"

I hear you (nice GT350 BTW), same thing, that's car still presents a tiny fraction of the population, most of who would consider the GT pretty fast.

Heck, I had a Supra, fully setup, ~670rwhp with coilovers, TRD bars, solid PB mounts, 15.5" AP 6-pistons, really dialed in both straight line and on track (I once had a GT3 owner tell me in the paddocks at Sebring he'd never seen a car run him down that fast )

I still consider the Mustang GT to be fast, in the grand scheme of all the cars on the road. :cheers:

I fully intend to trade my Pony in for a top-trim model 3 in a couple years. Teslas are damned impressive.

"Fast" is subjective to the operator. 4+ second 0-60 is not fast to me anymore post my sub 3 second 0-60 car. 4 seconds would be amazingly fast to someone who was only used to 6-10 second 0-60 though. Same with 1/4. And in all seriousness, who cares. Get the car you enjoy the most. .5 seconds here, a second there, if you like the car, enjoy. Everyone gets so worked up over bench racing and #s now a days.

+1 to P-Tree. I remember getting my 1989 LX 5.0 and thinking how fast that 225hp felt.

I still have a 2005 Focus ST, 140hp I think, that feels like a little go-cart. My son drives it now-a-days, but he's not trading it in on anything, I'll give him some down payment money to keep that car.

Even if my 2016 GT is not up to having the license plate, "GMKLLR", I'm not about to trade it in. Feels fast to me, and it's only going to get faster with the mods I am planning.

I only have to beat one car really, my cousins 2006 Corvette. He claims he has a tune in it that is giving him 406hp at the rear wheels.

Everything is slower in 2016 than in 2015. Its all part of the ever expanding universe. So a quarter mile gets a little longer every year. See the flat earth thread for related information.

Fact - 2016 Camaro is faster, especially the 8-speed auto. Are the 2016's slower, no, but they take a little more effort and better experienced driver to get the best times.

Dont be too sure that a Camaro will beat a GT. If you ran it against the faster base model,auto,3.55 gears you would see quite a bit of difference.They ran the fastest Camaro against the slowest GT.
I have a '13 GT500 and still think my GT hauls ass.With the auto you can drive it aggressively without breaking stuff too.
I traded a '12 SS,M-6 for my GT. That was definitely not a fast car.

Like I said Car and driver posted a 4.3 0-60 that's .1 second slower than the Camaro.

if you cant handle more than out of the box car performance and dont care about how it look then buy the camaro. if you wanted to buy a mustang then wait until the mag give better time. Mustang speeds depend when it run.

There's always going to be a faster car, folks.

If you're after the fastest stock number, spend more and go with another car. Be happy with what you've got, make it yours, and build it if it's not fast enough for you.

Nothing stays on top forever, and before long the Camaro is going to be dethroned as well. Hell..does anyone remember the fury that erupted out of the Terminator camp when the GT500 showed up in 2007?

Come to think of it..I don't think the butthurt has passed there yet..

Mustang wasn't fast enough for me. Luckily there are companies out there that help with that problem. I've never seen fit to keep my cars stock, so what it comes with from the factory is largely irrelevant.
