I have a 2015 GT Premium Auto with 53k miles. I'm seriously considering trading it for 2023 Mach 1 (probably a manual). I love my car but I'd like to upgrade before Ford starts the inevitable decline in performance, and I'm not a huge fan of the S650.

I've driven a Mach 1 manual and absolutely love it. But the similarities to my current car are noticeable (most noticeably the interior) and the cost to upgrade is very significant. I'm curious to get opinions from people who have owned an early S550 GT and a Mach 1. Do you think it's worth it? Do you think Mach 1s will hold their value for the next few years?

Absolutely yes, I've had a GT and a Bullitt , the Mach1 is a far better package.

LOL. same here...2016 GT Auto, 2019 Bullitt, and now 2021 Mach 1 manual, which is hands down the best of the three. You can get them for less than a S650GT (with some options) right now. A no-brainer in my opinion but I am also not a fan of the S650.

How does it feel compared to a Bullitt?
Handles better (tighter) and the tremec is so much better (shifter feel, engagement, and gear ratios). Bullitt is a very nice looking fast cruiser, Mach 1 feels more like a sports car (though the weight is undeniable).

From a "feel" perspective, I'd say Sport mode in the Bullitt feels like Normal mode in the Mach 1. Track mode in the Bullitt feels like Sport mode in the Mach 1. Everything is turned up a notch. Steering in the Mach 1 also feels more direct to me. I was hesitant at first to pay up and switch but I don't have any regrets. Caveat: I'd say the Mach 1's full potential you can only experience on the track.

So take the manual out of the equation for a minute. Apples to apples (or auto to auto), is it still that much better?

Can't speak to the auto vs auto comparison, but I came from a 2018 GT manual with 4.09's to a 2021 Mach manual and have never once regretted it.

Can't speak to that either, have never driven the A10. Form what I read, the A10 in the Mach 1 is tuned differently and better on the track vs. the one in the GT. Also, think about the coolers that the Mach 1 has from the factory. You could of course add those with aftermarket parts to a GT.

Not a M1 owner but I will comment in favor of them for a few reasons. If I had the extra funds or if I could have had my Ford Employee Plan discount apply to the M1 I would've ordered it instead of my GT/CS.

Commenting on the value, the market is still kind of weird right now but my expectation is that S550s will be coming down in price as most people tend to trade in for the next new thing anyways unless they are excessively financially responsible or have the incentive to do so. In terms of value not sure as they are historic name plate and these tend to hold value for awhile but that is entirely on the dealership imho. My advice is that if you can afford to get a manual one and your current car is fully paid off, to do it.

Since the OP also asked about value: As to value retention, it is a numbered car and sits "above" the GT, so I think it will hold its value better than a GT but it will also depreciate for the foreseeable future in my opinion. The manuals will hold their value better than the automatics.

If you're looking for a Mustang with value retention, go GT350. I was close to buying one twice but I didn't (for various reasons). If you're looking for a investment grade Mustang, go GT350R.

I went from a 15gt premium manual bought new in 15 and owned for 6 years. heavily modified suspension and MGW shifter, tune. etc
I pre-ordered the 21 Mach 1 in Oct 2020 and received in March 2021. It's an Auto.
Even though there are lots of similarities on the interior I still have no regrets. The Gen 3 motor pulls way harder especially in the higher RPM's and longer where the gen 2 falls on it's face at 6k.
Also the way the Mach feels at high speeds is noticeable.
And the stock suspension is just as good as my Steeda suspension on the 15 with way less noises!.
So yes, it's worth it!

I had a 17 GT vert with the PP1 and a manual and I traded up to a 23 mach 1 with the auto. As other have said the suspension difference is night and day in favor of the mach 1. The standard GT or PP1 is not track capable with out major upgrades, where as the mach can go straight to the track right off the show room floor. You may not be competitive right away, but at least the car can handle the added stress of being on a track.

Why did you go to an auto?
