Is hitting the rev limiter a problem?

I take my car up to, or close to the rev limiter more times than I can count everyday. These engines are designed for this. 7k will not hurt the car at all, unless you leave it there for extended times.

That's about how I drive mine too. 99% of the time I do great shifts, just that little 1% of the time I feel like a jackass when I hit the limiter. I've pretty much figured it happens when I'm over anxious about being the fastest in a race, and of course that's when it's the most embarrassing.

Just had me thinking if it truly cuts the gas or if there is a little computer aided deceleration going on to help the engine not get such a jolt in transitioning from accel to decel. It is what it is, I'm sure I'm overthinking it.
