It's like to talking to a bunch of muppets.

"And what was the reason for the change of brake discs, sir? Is that a performance upgrade?".

No, I wanted to make my braking performance worse so I downgraded. :frusty:

Aviva down now as well.

I CBA telling insurance on like for like changes, replacing brake discs, pads, light bulbs, etc, they'll try and charge you for everything. Upgrades, eh, worth them knowing, but really it's for ur own safety (Cough track)

Discs aren't like for like though. They cost nigh on a grand for the pair which is money I would want back in the event of a total loss.

Secondly, and probably more importantly, if an assessor ends up looking at the car and notices, then it's going to be a real ballache from there on in.

Suppose so. Just things like my lights, aren't going through insurance, If he goes 'Oh this led isn't stock' im going to laugh and say 'don't cover it then'.

But general rule of thumb, insurance are dumb when it comes to cars... which is ironic, as they really should know that sh1t.

Insurance customer service agents are dumb. You can bet the assessors know their cars down to nut and bolt level.

Replaced the pads and discs on my BMW recently, certainly a performance gain over the previous ones as they were shot, but just like for like (not oem). Wouldn't have dreamt of telling the insurance in the past. Now I wonder...

So, having rung around and found Direct Line, Aviva and Churchill all refusing to cover a remap, I rang my current insurer Adrian Flux to accept the renewal, which had increased from circa ÂŁ700 to ÂŁ820.

Informed them of the remap and that then added another ÂŁ70. :frusty:

ÂŁ890 for 1 years NCB, 12K miles and a remap, compared to last year at ÂŁ700 for 17K miles, 0 NCB and no remap.

Horses for courses I guess. Still not happy about it though. Surprised at companies throwing a fit at a remap as well. I put that down to a)people probably not bothering to tell them and b)it usually being done to chavmobiles.

Hmph.

Mine was 315 last year. Bowled me over considering my old e36 is 200 with the same company.

Renewal is just through at 347 so I guess I've done alright. I'll still ring and try and get it down though.

Privilege BTW.

Surely the brakes are a safety upgrade! Insurance should go down. I would ask them to take that to the underwriters

Their response would probably be that people who feel the need to upgrade their brakes are more likely to drive in a more enthusiastic manner and a higher risk of an accident.

Worth mentioning to the insurance company that the stickers are there to create more drag, meaning the car is slower and safer. Should get a discount ;)

This^, basically.

Regardless of any "safety" improvements, insurance companies see performance mods=faster driver=higher risk. Cosmetic mods=higher theft risk. You can't win.

Plus being the fastest colour is never going to be cheap either. :D
