Hey guys,

I am trying to find a good guide on OPG install on the s550 platform. I have installed a few sets on a few 197 cars but it has been a few years and I could use a refresher. Thanks in advance for any help.

Google "Mustang OPG install" and the first result from SVTPerformance is the best guide there is.

It's for an S197 but pretty much everything is the same except the timing procedure which I'll link below.

Only other difference is that we have a separate A/C belt. It is a stretch belt and has no tensioner. You can use a plastic pry tool to remove/reinstall while someone rotates the crank, or take a bolt off the A/C compressor pulley and use a zip tie.

If you have an auto you'll have to pull the rubber plug off the lower driver side of the engine to access a bolt on the flex plate and have somebody hold that while you torque the balancer bolt on installation. It's a pain in the ass. If you have a manual just put it in 6th and it wont move.

To install the balancer I suggest a small propane torch to heat the balancer and expand it, and an MMR install bolt. Some people prefer using an actual install tool too since it puts less stress on the threads, but in either case I suggest heating the balancer at least with a heat gun, and lube the crank snout to make sure it goes on without issue. Make sure it's fully seated. DO not expect to be able to find the install bolt or tool from a local store, buy it ahead of time. I made this mistake and had to pay $80 for overnight shipping on a bolt. Lol. Do not reuse the stock bolt for final installation, either get a new Ford bolt or an ARP bolt.
