Im under the same assumption. I figured thats why Moddiction didnt need to enable the front slot. Since everything would be done via USB cable.
Hopefully that's the case. If I can load to the SD using the usb then the front/back slot becomes a non-issue. I thought I read that the USB could be used for system software updates but not to update the Nav which is on the SD. Guess we'll have to wait for clarification.

You should be able to update the maps by loading the new maps file on the USB and going through the software menus. What you will not be able to do is update the actual map program (i.e. Primo to nextgen)

Other then that there is no way to transfer files from USB to SD unless you use total commander and break out of the sync UI into the base Windows CE desktop.

Thanks.
That's what I was afraid of... I wanted to switch over to Nextgen without tearing apart my whole dash again. Maybe one of my techie friends can do the other method you mentioned.

Same here, isn't the SD card just a memory location to hold the nav software, all software updates and inputting of extended tagged media such as movies and music can be done via the aux usb cable that comes with the unit and is run to ones glove box.

I don't want to spread misinformation, but I believe system updates will be made through the USB dongle in the glove box; changes to the Nav software need to be made to the SD card. Certainly, if you wanted to, say, upgrade to iGo's Nextgen software, you'd have to physically swap out the SD card.

EddieGT What pisses me off is not that they 'didn't need to enable the front slot', it was already enabled, they physically disabled it so that we can't use it. As someone else said, you could also put music, movies, whatever, on the SD card as well, alongside the Nav software.

Don't get me wrong, I like the unit and it works well, but I always hate the feeling of someone pulling a fast one and that's how I feel about this. It's like bait and switch, here's a demo of a unit with the Nav running in the front slot, where it's easy to get to, BUT, when you buy it, we'll move the card to the back where you can't access it once the unit is installed in your dash and ship it off to you.

Have you tried to update the maps from the USB?

And, you're demoing the Raxiom unit, right? Does that have a functional front SD slot?

Exactly! And, if we had a usable front slot, you wouldn't need to ask techie friends to do anything; you could just swap the sd cards in like 5 seconds....

Redraven571 I get what you're saying. I dont mind taking the dash apart to install Nextgen; I think it's worth the work and time. But, I dont want to have to do it for simple map updates. That would definitely piss me off. And as far as putting music on a SD card, I dont have a need for that since I stream everything. But for those of you that do want the option, I understand the frustration.

I do have the Raxiom unit and while they did leave the front SD intact they did not provide the USB harness. So I have no way to test the map update from USB.

EddieGT I hear ya! If it's only for a total switch it's maybe not so bad. BUT, if they hadn't taken out the front slot, for no supplied good reason, you'd only need to tear apart the dash for equipment failure, or to replace with something else down the line.

I guess we'll have to ask Moddiction when they return.

Yes, a good USB can be faster than SD, but I guess that the unit doesn't have a USB 3.0.

Anyway... you will probably never update your GPS SW which is OK, but you will want (I want) to update the GPS maps. Specially if you live close to large metro areas.

zackmd1 Just curious, is the card with the maps in front or back?

It would be rare for me to have to update the maps. Not too many new streets in San Diego County. But, would probably be a good idea for road trips. And USB 3.0 would have been great, but I knew that wasn't going to be built into this unit.

Considering that it's running Win CE, that's probably a fair guess.

How so? Seems like most people are itching for Nextgen. I'd personally just mirror and use Waze if it weren't for the fact that I can't control music from screen/steering wheel controls when using HDMI.
