I've been doing some light reading on what types of wheel/tire setup we can go on the Mustang. I currently have the "premium 20in" wheels on my GT Premium (brushed alum). I enjoy how they look on the ride but I just sold my set of American Muscle 19x8.5"s from my Ecoboost days and wanted to spring towards wider tires. I've owned a staggered wheel setup in my Corvette so I do understand the cons of rotations and potential quicker wear of rubber.

Can I go to a 18" or 19" wheel but have 305/315 wide tires? I've talked to some folks who went to 19" to have more rubber and make the drive smoother. What is the ideal setup for front and rear for the S550 if I don't want to go squared. Also how much more ideal is wider tires for the Mustang GT even in stock form?

305s will stick out a little on the front I believe. I went with 295s on 10.5s. This allows me to run 305s in the back and 295s or 285s on the front

Figure out your tire size first. Then get whatever wheel is required

I think 19s are perfect btw. Here’s my setup, 295/35/19 front, 305/35/19 rear

I'd go to the Tire and Wheels section, peruse the aftermarket sticky on top and look at what people have done. 305/35/19 tires don't have a good selection and for a great summer tire, in that size, the Michelin PSS is the best selection. I used Contis on the front at 285/35/19 (see sig) as they were rated almost equal, but a little less $$. I wanted the flush look, no poke. The PSSs do a tiny bit because of how the bead area is manufactured, but its ok.

A lot depend on what you want as far as looks and performance and of course, $$. An "ideal setup" is subjective.

This site may help you out to compare tire sizes. It helped me to figure out my current tire/wheel setup is almost the same diameter as the stock PP1 measurements. I am only off by 1mph at 90mph. https://tiresize.com/comparison/

To me, the perfect set ypfor the street is 8.5" 19" wheel with 255/40r19 tires for the front and 10" 19' wheel with 285/35r19 tires for the rear

305's are good tire for stock. Should definitely keep you from spinning too much. Boosted on the other hand, time for street slicks. I am looking for some this spring so i can actually enjoy the power. Meantime, I drive the car in snow/rain mode and it is considerably more driveable.

I have the same PP2 wheels as SMS2022. Got mine from Ford Performance and absolutely love them. But good points brought up that 19" tires are not very optionable. You get what is available it seems like. And even with that, if you get the tire size you want in the back, the same company might not have the size you want in the front. 20's have way more options. Sure you might give some ride quality, but I am sure it is negligible and you didn't buy a Cadillac.

If you are trying to go 305/315 you will need a 19x11 square or 19x11 19x11.5 staggered, 305 up front will have some poke and rubb up front

I've been doing some light reading
sounds like you need to do some HEAVY reading instead. Everything has been answered many times over. It'll just take a few days to absorb it all. :)

I like 315 35 20s rear and 285 35 20s front. Really fills out the wheel wells and gives a slight rake. Another option that alot of high end cars do is staggered sizes, like 315 35 20 rear and 275 40 19 fronts. These sizes are actually taller than OEM so you will gain ground clearance, and your wheel wells will be filled out better. May not be able to lower the car as much though with these sizes.

I would even consider 21's it would make your car stand out , rarely do people go 21's on mustang. You could even do 21s rear and 20's front as another option. Ride may be a bit harsh on 21s though, I havent tried.

I'm not opposed to a stagger set. I had a Corvette in the past with a staggered setup. If I go with 275-40-19 and 315-35-20 will there be any fitment issues? If I don't have to lower my car, to get rid of the wheel gap I'm all about it. Its said on here that wider meat in the rear keep the Mustang planted. I'm on the stock 20x9s and I feel like that grip is searching at times.

For me the stock PP1 sizes are the perfect setup for a street car 255/40/19 / 275/40/19 rear this doesn't have tremlining on the street and has enough tire in the rear to still be playful but not oversteer like crazy. So I bought a set of PS4s's for street summer duties.

Stock camber. Sit about flush front and back at the tops of the wheel wells, maybe inside by a quarter inch.
