Me and my gal were out for a nice fall drive yesterday, but failed to notice part of the drive was over a road they had just sprayed either oil or some preservative they use in the Midwest to keep asphalt from potholes. After cleaning the car I noticed the body panels still felt rough. I can get a slight brown residue on my finger from rubbing it too. What do you detail freaks recommend for getting gunk off the baby? fYI I have ceramic coating all over the car, only 1 1/2 year old application.

thx

Whatever you do, DO NOT use WD40. I tried that one time to remove road tar spatter, and the results were disastrous.

No I wouldn't consider WD-40.

I use Griot’s bug and tar remover, but anything similar should work. As with anything, start with a small spot to make sure you get the desired results before working a larger section

I have Griot's garage foam pad synthetic clay pad, tried that with detail spray seemed to work. small tester. I'm not sure what clay bar does to ceramic.

The synthetic pads aren’t super aggressive so your coating should be ok. There might be some light marring/love marks from it but my guess is it would be very light and not easily seen unless you are going over it close up with a light.

Having grown up in the midwest (northern WI) my recommendation is to leave. Problem solved. 😂 It worked for me!!! LOL

Do Griots or Turtle Wax Bug & Tar remover. Works like a charm. Brand doesn't matter so much, but just make sure it is a bug & Tar remover and you will be set. 👍

LOL born and raised (and still here) in the Chicago western burbs. We have two seasons here: winter and construction 🤣. So we’re well versed in tar removal LOL

dude I left Houston, non-stop heat, pollution, traffic, shootings, hurricanes and more for four seasons. FYI the GT is a fun drives, car meets, track dates and road trip car. No snow, cold wet roads etc. for the baby.

fwiw all you Texans out there, I am still in my heart an expat Texan just couldn't handle Houston anymore. Now the Hill Country in Spring .... ;-)

What a shame... I was hoping not to be the only bright orange convertible mustang driving around with the top down on those chilly snow filled roads. 😉

Yes, that cold white stuff is going to be padded down under my pirelli sottozero 3's LOL

Denver not so much right now. Currently 70 degrees and sunny. Give it a few hours and it could be 30 degrees and snowing. Nobody ever knows around here. 🤷‍♂️

A good quality bug and tar remover should do the trick. As mentioned above, try in a small spot and check results. My 2 Go To's are CarPro TarX and Koch Chemie TEA, if these don't do it, you can go stronger (Stoners Tarminator or Koch Chemie Eulex). Just keep the heavy duty stuff away from any plastics to be safe.
