Hypergate and Eboost

Has anyone tried to use an Eboost2 with a Hypergate45 (like beefcake setup) on their centricity car?

Was thinking it would be nice to be able to adjust boost on the fly like a turbo car

If you are just bleeding a few psi off it will be fine.

Try and bleed to much, and you can wind up with a belt eating, crank breaking monster on your hands.
Dumb question - but why do you say that? What happens? Thanks!

Try and bleed to much, and you can wind up with a belt eating, crank breaking monster on your hands.

[MENTION=11041]ProChargerTECH[/MENTION] is 3-4 psi bleed safe and what dynamics are at play that cause havoc for the head unit and crank? Is it the sudden reduced load or what? Thanks!

Thanks but I don't see where the question was completely answered. How is the amount of energy to drive the head unit to say 17psi different if the system is "gated" or not? And how is this harder on crank or head unit? Head unit is going to be rated for a certain impeller RPM and a certain CFM at a certain pressure ratio (compressor map). Just trying to understand [MENTION=11041]ProChargerTECH[/MENTION]

Yeah im not understanding how there would be more force on the blower. You are essentially just making a boost leak.

I'm in the same boat as you. Wouldn't the amount of effort be equal with and without the wastegate? A 4.38 pulley will not all the sudden need more effort because it is wastgated. It all linear and the PC knows no difference. Maybe I'm wrong...

OP... I run an eboost2, works great!

OP... I run an eboost2, works great!
Now maybe if the gate was opening and closing during a pull i could see that maybe causing some stress but a pulley setup is mechanical. That blower is going to spin at the desired rpm of that pulley setup no matter what. Turbos slow down and speed up rpm depending on what the wastegate is doing. The blower doesnt. Like i said its just a boost leak.

You mean the sudden massive addition of load....

Boost leak = the load on the blower/belt/crank goes up.


Think about your vacuum cleaner guys.
What happens when you put your hand over the nozzle and FLOW goes away?
You hear the vaccums motor spin faster (easier)..... take your hand of, and it bogs down.

The more CFM you are trying to move, the more HP it takes. ;)
So if you make to big of a hole, (or bleed) well you just started adding a massive amount of power it takes to turn the blower.

This is the fundamental reason you do NOT see wastegates on blowers being common place.
Most people try it, then end up ditching them since the cars end up being just as fast at the track without it


I am not even going to get into things like load vs spark timing. Thats a whole different topic. :)

I don't really agree on the load question. Its a belt driven system, the amount of horsepower to drive the blower GOES UP with more resistance/boost. Creating a boost leak reduces the amount of resistance and the amount of energy to drive the blower the same rpm is lower.

However, I still do agree a wastegated system puts more stress on the crank simply because like for like, a wastegated setup requires the blower to be driven faster. That simple fact is why the load is higher, it is spinning the blower harder.

If you say took a 4.38" pulley and ran it NOT wastegated and let it eat the full 17psi and compared the load of that setup versus a wastegated 4.38" set to bleed boost off to 10psi, I would say the wastegated system has LESS load as there is less resistance to spin the blower the same rpm. In the upper RPMs, the blower compressor wheel will face less resistance at the outlet of the head unit. How much? Who knows, but it cannot be as high as a non-wastegated setup.

ProchargerTech - are you making the argument that because you are bleeding off boost you are upsetting the balance of the amount of power to drive the blower versus the power it makes to drive itself?

That I could probably agree with.

Wastegate has no bearing or influence on how hard the boost comes in. My pulleys do. Adding my 20% ati balncer has my boost coming in 3psi faster at any given rpm. Once it reaches 15 psi the gate slowly opens to level off at 15 psi. I can see it in my logs.

So if im understanding what you said about the vaccum cleaner correctly, you are saying the blower knows that i craated a boost leak and is going to try and spin harder to make the same boost? How?

I already have a Novi 2200 with the 3.33 pulley and Hypergate setup. Tuner initially set it to ~11 lbs, where its fine for 93 or e85. I was thinking of adding eboost so I could adjust in car from 10 ish lbs on 93 to 15lbs on e85, without having to swap tune and reach down into bumper to swap springs. Thoughts?
