2016 GT 5.0 with Steeda CAI, stock Throttle Body. I can hear the gulp/choke/pop sound sporadically from the CAI and after some research with similar issues on other cars, sounds like a throttle body clean or replacement is needed.

Being drive by wire TB, what is the proper way to clean the TB or is there a TB position re-learn that can be performed?

When cleaning, can I take the TB off or have someone in the car open the throttle while the key is on/engine off?

I just don't want to have to go to the dealer if I screw this up, trying to diagnose and fix before replacing.

kinda funny you mentioned this, or ironic actually--maybe not funny

just did a Polaris throttle body cleaning yesterday. Some things I learned.

The ETV (electronic throttle valve) is servo motor controlled, but the blades are attached to a spring. That spring is STOUT. You "can" manually open it but risk damaging the blade(s) in doing so. So what I did was have a coworker open it (foot to the floor engine off) and I used a spirts-soaked rag to wipe out the carbon deposits from the blade and bore. Easy. But if the blade shuts while you're working, and your finger is in there, it can remove the finger for you. So be careful!

Pretty easy to do so don't stress out over it.

First I'd buy a replacement throttle body gasket because Ford does recommend to replace them upon removal of the throttle body.

Removing them is pretty easy, remove the bolts in a cross pattern and disconnect the connector.

Once removed make sure the electronic motor is facing upwards and spray down the whole throttle body with throttle body cleaner (they sell it at AutoZone). Feel free to open the butterfly valve with you finger and scrub with a shop towel, repeat this a few times till clean. You don't want the cleaner to seep into the electronic motor that's why you keep it face up at 12 o'clock position when cleaning.

To reinstall tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern its a two stage torque as follows:

S1 - 62 Inch Pounds
S2 - 60 Degree turn

Those values are from service data from Ford.

When you reinstall the connector at the end put the car in accessory mode for a few seconds the TB goes through self-checks and calibration after being reconnected. You'll audibly hear it.
