I just bought a 2016 GT in DIB a few weeks ago. I was sold on the ResistAll package, like most, because of the 7 year warranty and I have children.

I was wondering, given the "protection" that has already been applied, how should I maintain the car going forward? I don't really know how to properly care for a car. I've waxed previous cars maybe twice in my life. I've always used Meguiars Gold wash on my cars. But this car looks so damn good I can't let it fade, swirl, etc... I must keep it looking like this!

I park outside. I may be parking in the garage in the near future, we'll see. But let's plan on just being exposed to the elements 24 hours a day. Hot Southern sun, rain, ice, and birds. I daily the car, about 25 miles a day. I'm pretty busy during the week leaving only the weekend to do anything and I may go three weeks without washing b/c of the weather.

I know I need to buy two buckets with grit guards and a foam gun for the hose. I need a stockpile of microfiber towels, mitts, and Dry Me Crazy. I'm lost on what shampoos, detailing spray, and what nots. It looks like it's all subjective and everyone has their favorite - Adams, Blackfire, Chemical Bros... I like the idea of sticking to one manufacturer. Probably better that way since the products will be made to work together. Should I just jump on an Adam's Essentials Complete Car Detailing Kit or should I go another route? Should I leave the detailing to a professional, since I have no experience waxing and claying, and just do the maintenance washes myself or can I learn how to detail without screwing my paint up? Should I wait six months before doing any sealant or wax b/c of the ResistAll?

Thank you for your expert advice!

Cgiles, I do not get the reference to having kids, and buying exterior paint insurance. Because they might damage the exterior of the car playing near it?

I think you are on the right track anyway. Planning to wash using the two bucket method is a good choice. A foam cannon is kinda fun, and cuts down on opportunities to create swirls. The kids will love the foam cannon. If you get the car soap from chemical guys, it smells really good to. Just make sure the soap is stored out of reach. No need for anyone to drink it.

For polishes and waxes, if you do not want to blue tape your black plastic trim up, find ones that you like that do not leave the dreaded white haze behind. Once it's applied to the black plastic, it is a bear to remove. You are right that everyone has their favorites and swear by them. I do think there are a lot of great products out their and great new stuff is being created all the time. If it makes it easier to select one family, go for it. Mind the haze. For haze, based on auto detail forums, CarPro Eraser seems to be getting high votes to remove it. I used to use rubbing alcohol until I used the eraser.

Whatever line you pick, have fun with it! Let the kids know that they used to have an older brother. That was until he scratched your car with his bike....

I was curious about this ResistAll you mentioned. I have not heard of that before. Of course, people are swearing it is a scam, and others are praising it. I have no experience with it, but came across this interesting post. I will be giving him a call this week to review what it does. From another forum, Mr. Rick Chalk of ResistAll said:

I'm the CEO of the company that manufactures and sells ResistAll to automobile dealers, who then sell our products to consumers. I wish I would have seen these posts and replied earlier so that you would have had the benefit of a response in context. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss with you the value and benefits of ResistAll. Most auto dealers today are regulatory careful and customer oriented businesses. Many changes have occurred in the last several years in the auto industry, and customer relations is a high priority. Do they make money on the sale of products, of course they do. Hopefully all of us are working for a profitable company that generously compensates its employees and that provides excellent service. If you would like to discuss our products or the subject in general, please feel free to call me at (800) 334-1820 ext. 3216. I think you'll be pleased to know what a great value ResistAll is to the consumer - Rick Chalk.

Yeah, if the ResistAll had just been a paint protectant then I may not have sprung for it but it actually covers the interior as well. The interior is what worried me, having an eight and two year old and if we were to ever take my car on a trip. For two bills and some change and covered for seven years I said what the heck.
