Some people just don't know much about cars, but at least the OP had the sense to ask questions and learn.

Surprised nobody has mentioned about green tire caps. That usually means that the tires were filled with nitrogen.

The wife's Escape came with nitrogen but the Mustang did not. Go figure.

Thanks for the picture and info. This helps put my mind at ease! Guess I'll just go buy some super cheap replacement covers to keep everything clean.
Hey Coolmanfoo, just get the cheap ones for sure. If you get the nice Chrome ones they'll end up on some losers bike next time you go to the store. Ask me how I know...

Just take a really sharp knife and cut the valve stems off and you never have to worry about anyone steeling your caps again. :-)

Well mine have nitrogen, oxygen, and minute amounts of other gases, such as argon, carbon dioxide, helium, methane, and other trace gases. Also known as air.....

This is no offense to the OP. Serious statement. I just got WAY more appreciation for my dad for teaching me what he has about cars and a lot of other things. WAYYYYYY more appreciation.

OP..good on you for asking. Learn how to inflate tires and check/add fluids like oil, brakes, transmission fluid, etc. Anything they do at jiffy lube should be something you know. And make sure you know how to change a tire and how to use the slime and inflation system in your mustang. If you know some of these things, that's great, but if not please make it a priority. I would show you if you didn't live 3,000 miles from me.

And try to get a working knowledge of a car's systems, like internal combustion basics, transmission, driveline, clutch, etc. Make friends with a car guy.

And how to use a tire pressure gauge and home and gas station air compressor! Those new gas station compressors are dumb. I don't trust them to actually shut off where they're supposed to.

So some great guy decided that he would come along and steal the tire caps off my gt. So when I saw that first I thought, wow really? But then I had two genuine concerns.

First, is the tpms in the screw on cap or in the tire itself?

Secondly, why isn't it leaking air? I haven't had them on for days and I've driven it but no air comes out? Is it some magical thing?

Actually a third question, wtf steals oem caps and that's it?
Pressure sensors are inside the wheel. The cap isn't to stop leaks, although it might mask a leak in a valve; its to keep moisture and dirt out of the valve.
