Gm has had this tech overseas with the Opel brand for about 5 years now.

Ford has begun implementing a system where its cars read speed limit signs (or get street speed limit data from GPS) and automatically govern your car's top speed so you can't go over the speed limit. No more speeding tickets ever! It's a shame they didn't implement this in time for the 2015 Mustang...

From the guy who doesn't even use eBay I'm not surprised you're for this.

This is a joke right?
No, Ford is 100% serious with this. It's currently available on the S Max in the U.K. and will be migrating here soon.

First, read the rest of the thread.

Second, what does using eBay have to do with anything? I don't know anybody who uses eBay.

Too many ethical questions to answer before driverless cars take over the freeways. As an example you are riding in your driverless car and a truck pulls out in front of you. Perhaps it's an older model without car-to-car communication. The impact will be fatal unless the car swerves onto the sidewalk to avoid the collision. Problem: there are pedestrians on the sidewalk. What does the car do? It has to decide who will be killed during the event.
Until these kinds of scenarios however improbable you might think are discussed and solutions found I can't see driverless cars in the near future.

As long as theres a button to turn the feature off i don't care if they put it in the car or not.

The only way I would use it (if it were an option) would be when I'm both driving through rural areas- as mentioned earlier- and on the interstate where there's towns or construction sites that require a slow down AND I can set how much the vehicle slows down through these areas. There are times when I really do need to get somewhere and don't feel the need to "have a little fun" but want to maintain certain speed levels. I try to stay close to posted speed levels in the rural areas and road construction zones but almost always drive 7-8 miles per hour faster than posted speed levels on the highway. I'm 42 years old, and the only speeding ticket I got was 2 weeks after I got my driver's license when I was 16 (and was definitely speeding!) so it's a system that has worked well for me. Traffic flow is almost always that fast anyway. If I do eventually get a ticket for that much over it won't be expensive. If I could set it to allow my car to only go 2-3 MPH over the posted speed limit in rural areas and construction zones and 6-8 MPH over the posted speed on highways and interstates I'd consider paying extra for the option.

To summarize, I'd be okay with it ONLY IF I could program it to be used as a tool for my benefit. If I had to physically push a button or do something weird to override it I'm completely out.
