Anyone know where the hood switch is. I don't see it mounted to the underside of the hood, and might be looking right at it in the engine compartment and don't even know it. Is it only related to the security system if you have that option? I am having the "hood open" icon appear on my dash and am sure it's closed.

In the middle, where the radiator is.
I'm looking around the latch above the radiator and don't see the switch in there anywhere?

This car isn't the BMW i8. Once you pop the hood from inside the car it should lift a little. Take your finger and slide it under towards the center, it's there.

Think there is confusion here, it looks like the issue is that there is a hood open alarm on the dash and they are looking for the switch that provides that signal not the lever to open the hood itself.

I'm not sure where it is, but I found a post about a 2008 where there was a rubber boot in front of the battery that appeared to be the switch in question. They've probably moved it since then. I can take a look later to see if I can find anything, not sure if mine has it or not.

Yes, thank you for recognizing what I am looking for. It's weird, the light is on, but the hood is definately latched down. Stupid me, I was running some wires near the release lever by the driver side footwell behind the plastic panels. Next thing you know (well a couple of days later) it is saying hood open. That thread you linked talked about the electronic switch might only be part of the factory alarm option if I understand it. I only have a Base model GT and half believe I don't have a switch. I also recently installed a tune and am wondering if that has something to do with the light showing up? Last night I took that panel off and the release lever. The release lever mechanism is mounted with one bolt and I accidentally moved it a little. (It pivots around the one mounting bolt. Now I'm not sure if I've tightened the bolt with the mechanism in the right spot or if I'm just on a wild goose chase because I might not even have a switch. Just rambling now. Basically just wondering if the Base model GT even has a swich. Probably does or the light wouldn't be there on the dash and they wouldn't have mentioned it in the manual. Anyone ever screw with the release lever and have this issue?
Thanks again.

The hood switch is part of the hood latch assembly. Look carefully and you'll see the wires and plug on the hood latch.

Cool, I'll get a closer look in there tonight. Thanks!

Nah that's just the battery cover.
The hood switch is in the latch.
The S550 hood you need to drop it at least 8-10 inches height to make sure its fully closed.

I've gotten the hood open warning while it's closed.. I believe it has something to do with the fact that my hood is poorly aligned. Maybe if my dealer finally fixed the damn thing it might stop. (paint chipped on the edge of the hood due to the poor alignment)

Is your hood misaligned by any chance?

Nope hood is aligned almost perfectly. I pointed it out to the dealer 11 months ago when I bought it. Just finished installing a ProCharger, so guessing that has something to do with it. I fished the wires for the BAP near the release lever, but last night that area looked good. Tonight I'll check out the switch, hopefully it just is out of alignment, although I don't know why as I didn't touch the latching area. Just need to get in there tonight and see what I hopefully bumped out of place. Crossing fingers.

Yep, here it is if you need, the contact is there and when the latch is closed it pushes that metal flange at the bottom down in contact with it, or so it seems.

Got it. Took the latch out and loosened the screw holding the switch and rotated it a bit. Works like a champ now. Oh yeah, it's a small torx, I think a size 9. Mine wasn't marked, but it was smaller than the size 10 I have.

Thanks!
