Hey guys, so I spoke to my Ford dealership and apparently I am able to install high flow catted headers as long as if there is an issue it cant be traced back to the headers being the problem , I'm fine. So I guess I'm good to go. However are there variations that don't require a tune? Because I'm sure than a tune would void the warranty.

I would imagine that the OEM ECU can compensate for more intake and exhaust flow, it will just not be optimised for it and will try to revert back to the OEM parameters where it can.

While in warranty you really shouldn't add any power beyond what Ford is willing to cover with their performance packs (and I'm not sure those are technically covered either).

Listen to what your dealership told you;

As long as whatever you mod can't be traced back to a failure, your warranty is fine.

So, if you do a safe tune that does no harm, your warranty is fine.

In America at least, a tune legally cannot "void the warranty". While an engine failure might not be covered if tuned, the rest of the car's warranty is in full effect.

Based on what your dealership has told you, I'd say it's fine to tune your engine. Just go with a reputable source, and a safe tune.

I'd make sure you get that in writing if you're worried about your warranty. Was reading last night about a guy who put in an X pipe to replace his Resonator and the dealership flagged and denied the warranty on his transmission failure claiming the X pipe caused it. So it seems hit or Miss I think depending on the dealership or who they talk to at Ford on any given day. Again, just from what I've read and we all know to take anything read online with a grain of salt.

I decided late last night I'm not risking anything as far as performance upgrades go till the car is out of its powertrain warranty but to be honest I'll probably have traded it in for a GT 350 or something similar by then but who knows. I do love my current car so if it treats me right I may keep it till the day I die

Again from what I've read yes. I watched a video on a GT350 engine failure from a YouTube user named woman.driven and when she took her car in the dealership determined she needed a new engine. So she put her stock intake back on and the dealership took pics of the engine bay and also downloaded all the computer info and sent it to Ford. Long story short Ford denied the claim stating they could tell that she was using a different CIA because the factory one she reinstalled was cleaner than the rest of the engine bay and the data log files showed it was running a different tune.

Again, after doing some research and asking questions, it seems you have to count on taking it to the right dealership in combination with the right person at Ford handling the claim. I do know in this research Ford is a lot more diligent in their research when determining to replace or cover an engine failure with a hand built GT350 motor vs a standard coyote motor.

So I'm not doing anything to jeopardize my warranty unless I have it in writing to cover my rear.

From working at a dealership this can or cannot be the case. It depends on who it is that writes the car up and who approves the warranty work (if ever brought in for it)
The guy you talked to might have no issue at all with writing it up and putting it through. In two months if that service manager is no longer there and the new guy says anything aftermarket voids warranty work then that’s what you have to deal with.
So it’s really up to you. If you bring it in for a drivability issue ( even if it isn’t from the headers)they could simply say we aren’t touching it due to your headers.
but if you bring it in for a suspension clunk they would help you since that isn’t modified.
i know this doesn’t clear anything up just my .02 cents from what I’ve seen.

This is what seems to be the case from everything I've read and watched as well.

If your worried about warranty, aftermarket headers with cats are not a great value proposition (even if you do the ass kicking install yourself) for power increases. 8-12 hp tops. You could get that with a $350 dollar s550 cat delete kit. If more volume is what your looking for just do a muffler or resonator swap.

What are green cats ? High flow ? I found a pair of american racing headers for $1700 with cats . If it has cats would you assume they are high flow ?

Dude, just change out your resonator or mufflers... Next.

Mustang newbie = I heard you have to have new headers. ;).
