Hey Mustang6g! After a year and a half of drooling over all the builds on here I finally decided on making an account and looking to buy a Mustang. Now, my only issue is.. What to buy. I've seen plenty of builds on this website that look very close to what I imagine myself doing to her and my question is.. Is the Performance Package or the Premium worth it? Now, as I'm not a big fan of anything under the 5.0, I'm having trouble deciding if it's worth buying extra packages when I know most of it will be ripped out for "better" parts.

I want a 5.0 GT, 2015 or latter, with a manual transmission.. Everything else will just go by my preference, but i could definitely use some advice and opinions.

Thank you, sorry its a lot to read.. :ford:

The braking performance alone on the PP is worth the value. Over a G in deceleration is easily achieved and is awesome. Having said that it depends on what you want the car to do. A little autocross or track days here and there, get the PP. If just a driver on the street, non PP would be fine IMHO.

I started a build thread about this. My budget for a car was tight so I went base. I was able to add wheels/tires, exhaust, suspension, subs/amp, and leather all for under what premium would cost. Plus I think it looks better than any stock premium.

Hmm.. Money isn't THAT big of an issue but I'd like to save as much as possible.. I hear what you're saying, it helps. I will most likely go with the premium PP 5.0

Nice car, man! I think I'm going to throw a bit more money out just in case.. Will be my first brand new car, don't want to have any factory problems.

I'm not a huge fan of the standard, mostly black, interior (of course I ended up in a GT350, where that is the only option, so go figure).

I therefore like the idea of the premium interior, with the redline seat option. I'd also get the performance pack and the recaro seats, though, so it would end up being pretty pricey.

For the GT350 I have the Track Pack, which means the interior is basically the same as the base GT interior. It is actually pretty nice, and every day I am less and less annoyed by the tiny radio screen with its huge, useless bezel. So, if you are OK with the base interior, sticking with that might be a good idea as it frees up funds to be used for other things (tires and mods for example).

Good luck with your decision, and I'm sure you'll end up happy either way.

Oh gosh...you popped a can of worms. My recommendation...don't build at all. Just go for the GT350 and save all that aftermarket cash. There, the dumb suggestion is out and running around now!

Make sure you get the 50th anniversary edition as well. If you're going to do it go all out. Don't want to leave anything unchecked.

If I could do it again, I'd get:

Mustang 5.0 Premium without the Performance Package equipped with 3.55 gears and the automatic transmission with Recaro seats. Why, few reasons. (1) The MT-82 and clutch combo in this car is f'ing terrible. I'm sorry, but compared to other cars I've driven, it sucks. (2) The auto transmission is arguably stronger than the MT-82. (3) Yes you lose the clutch shift connection to the car but in traffic, you realize 100% how much of a pain the clutch is in this car (4) venturing away from the clutch, the 3.73 gears in the PP-equipped car are fun but force a lot more shifting in daily driving - can get annoying. You get used to it and it becomes normal, but it's a lot better in a 3.55 equipped car and that's fast enough off the line for fun and you'll get down a 1/4 mi probably faster than a 3.73 because you don't have to change gear as quickly off the line and down the strip. Finally, (5) the cooled seats are a joke and nobody really needs heated seats, so get the Recaros because you sit a bit lower and that little bit is crucial).

I would then upgrade the wheels, suspension and chassis bracing. I'd put in Wilwood brakes which are better and lighter than the Brembos in the PP-equipped car. I'd update the radiator fans to the PP larger fans, too. I'd get an engine tune along with a tranny tune for the auto to quicken that slug up. Then I'd be able to roast around on the weekends and still get to work never having to shift with the MT-82! :)

I'd probably end up spending more in total for the non-PP car + cost-efficient upgrades, but... I'd be happier I think.

I was told to get the performance pack or I would regret it. I have no idea if I'd have regretted it, but I do enjoy it. It worked out for the best though because I love the black PP wheels and I would definitely have regretted having any other style.

Don't let the big touch screen sway you. It's annoyingly complex for something that should be very simple. My wife's Explorer has it, and I really feel like it takes too much time away from looking at the road. The wheel controls for it are pretty good though.
