[RESOLVED] I nstalled the two files and screwed up the install of the phone.. and, as yet, have not been able to figure out how to get my car to become an "accepted car" in Android Auto settings.

The problem was caused because I used a USB cable that had a small cut in it during the first boot up... a cable I'd been using for months.

I tried to reinstall the files to get the system to restart so, using a new cable, I could go through the phone install process but that wouldn't work.

So, I reset the whole thing through settings>master reset, but that didn't change the version (still showed 2.2)

How can I get the SYNC to recognize my phone as "new" (or whatever) so that I can restart the phone install process?

Everything else works but I really want google maps on the screen.

Any help is appreciated... thanks!

Have you turned on Android Auto in Sync 3 (while the phone is disconnected) and added your phone via Bluetooth? Also with your phone disconnected from USB open Android Auto and then go into settings and Connected Cars. If any are in Accepted just delete them and delete and in rejected. Also make sure Add new cars to Android Auto is turned on. Once you are sure of all of that connect your phone via USB and see if it will recognize the phone and start the AA setup again.

The "unknown sources" box is/was checked. Are there any other "permissions" location to look at?

OK... Tried this.

There is nothing in accepted cars. I tried the bluetooth approach... and got nothing. (It has only ever said "none" in either accepted or rejected cars.)

When I plug it in via USB, I get a notice on the SYNC screen that says "the inserted USB device is not responding."

My phone says that it's "charging" and gives the 5 options; charging, file transfer, photo transfer, software installation and midi

I am using the Samsung cable that came with the phone, and it works for quick charging.

It connects to the SYNC through bluetooth (all the functions besides the transfer of the image on the phone screen to the SYNC screen work) and I know it's recognizing my phone that way.

All the permissions are set to yes.

I'm about to just call it a day with this because I've spent like 12 hours trying to get this to work... with no joy.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Ahh what phone and version of Android do you have? You have to set your phone to MTP (file transfer) in some cases. Depending on your version of Android you may have to enable developer options and force MTP under the USB options in Developer menu.

It's a Note 4 on 6.0.1.

And that did it. the problem is fixed and this thing works like a dream!

Thanks to all of you who helped out... and I may have been using the wrong USB port... (I was using the one in the port in the console box. When I plugged the phone in at the bottom of the panel by the "shaker" label, it immediately went into set up and the rest of it just poured in like BUTTAH!!!!)
