Hi all, first off, much thanks to everyone on the forum. Took a leap of faith and did the sync update. Very easy. Got the port today, also very easy. Apple CarPlay works and I do enjoy it for incoming texts, music.
Here is my question, I have navigation and I like Fords. I'm not a fan of the google maps navigation with CarPlay. Also don't want to use my phones data constantly. Seems the only way to get back to Fords navigation is to unplug the phone. Going back to the sync interface leaves maps as apples.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks again to all that posted the update file, and directions.

That's about how it works.

The messaging/phone features are pretty similar in Sync and CarPlay. If you only want to plug in for the better audio quality you can disable carplay on the phone side.

Apple Maps is really a whole lot better than the factory Navigation. For one, it updates. Maps doesn't use too much data as long as you aren't in satellite or hybrid view. The GPS doesn't use data, only traffic info and street layout, but you could use maps constantly for a month and not hit 1GB. My favorite part is the traffic rerouting. Factory Nav. sure can't do that.

I messed around with it last night and this morning for a bit and it's pretty good. Guess I'm just not into change! It did seem to have problems with addresses by speech, so I'll have to figure out typing it instead. Thanks

I'm not sure on apple (I hate Apple BTW :) )
But on the Android Auto, there is a button to return to SYNC 3 and it does. then you hit the Android Auto button to return to all of that functionality. Does Apple not do that?

Yes it does. Goes right to apple maps instead of navigation, even under the sync module.
well damn, I guess Android Auto would be the same way, which I dont mind.......

What sucks is you lose the outside and inside temp display when you're in Car Play. At least keep the outside temp next to the clock! But nooooooo....

Yeah, that would be nice!

If I'm not using maps I generally go back to the sync screen that has time, ext. temp., int. temp setting(s), and the compass.

Yeah, after doing the upgrade and playing around with it for a couple of days, I'm convinced that using CarPlay is a step backwards, especially in a NAV equipped car. You lose Sirius Travel link, Sync Maps, temp display... you also have to switch back to Sync to see radio and XM stations. The Sync home screen doesn't show maps at all, just a compass icon. I can't find any real benefit at all to using CarPlay, and I was really looking forward to it before I upgraded!

in the case of Google maps, which obviously we Android users have use of with Android Auto, the stock navigation doesnt hold a candle to Google maps, not sure how Apple maps compares, though Ive never really heard anything great about Apple maps

I like CarPlay didn't want to pay the thousand dollar option for the navigation since my phone works great I like using Waze don't like how the voice activation for temperature and everything else doesn't work because it just activate Siri
