I'm definitely going to get a convertible. I've worked in the car business for about 20 years at this point and driven just about every drool-worthy car (even if it was just down the street to get gas), and I know I will love a convertible. I love the fresh air. I'm also cursed by having driven vehicles that are much faster or lighter or both than the mustang. This mustang doesn't feel like a race car to me, and although I am sure I could modify it to be faster, I'd rather do that with something that would be more fun and cheaper to drive. The mustang hits me as more of a grand touring vehicle, which a convertible is perfect for. I'll definitely be doing some modifying (louder and slightly faster is always good), but where I live is perfect for convertibles, and I won't live here forever. Date night in San Francisco with my wife with the top down sounds really good to me. Please know, though, this is all just my opinion. I hope that I don't offend anyone by saying that this isn't what I consider a race car. I am also not speaking about the GT350, as I have not driven one. I am sure the extra power, better handling, and lighter weight makes a huge difference.
Seems like you've made the best choice here.

I agree that in 100% stock form the Mustang in any guise short of a GT350 or a GT500 isn't going to feel like a race car. But if you ever did decide to run a Mustang hard, it'd still be more at home on a 2-mile road course than at a frantically busy 30 second autocross held on a postage-stamp sized parking lot.

You can still fit it with tires that are more responsive and up the driving enjoyment level a little that way, if that's something you might notice in your driving.

Is that a tow hitch on a mustang :frusty:
Long time ago a friend of mine used to go camping in a little pop-up trailer. Pulled it with his 1968 427 Corvette because that was the only car he had. Every once in a while he'd pull up to a light next to some kids who were looking for a race. Didn't much matter if they were in a big-block Chevelle or something similar, he'd proceed to embarass them by showing them the taillights of the trailer (that they hadn't noticed). Absolutely hilarious. Look down on this sort of utility mod made to a muscle/pony/sports car at your own risk, I guess.

I haven't run that much on a 2 mile-ish course, although I am looking forward to hopefully doing that eventually around here. We'll see! I do enjoy the drive home when I take "the long way." I know some stickier tires would make it even more fun.

Worth noting that I considered a Vert, also. When I started looking at Mustangs, my wife was happy -- she has always wanted a cherry red Mustang convertible (automatic, of course, she can't drive stick).

So I now have a blue fastback in manual, so that she doesn't steal it from me.

My wife can definitely drive stick and she would thoroughly enjoy a convertible. I look forward to her stealing it from me and enjoying the car too!
I don't. I'd never get the damned thing back. Hell, I bought a nice TV, and now she monopolizes it with her weird TV shows. Just what the hell do you need a 4k TV to watch Supernatural, anyway?

Nah, I learned real quick that if I want to enjoy my toys, I have to pick ones she doesn't like or can't use.

I mean, I definitely don't let her use my woodworking tools, but she can take my car if she wants... and if she doesn't bring it back with curb rash... again.

Depends on what you're used to. For me, going from underpowered trucks and crapmobiles held together with duct tape, this car felt like a rocket.

well, turns out that a GT convertible with performance pack doesn't exist here, so I'll be putting an order in tomorrow morning!

2017 GT Convertible in Oxford White
Manual Transmission
401A
GT Performance Pack

That puts me at a $47,835 MSRP.

Everything I want and nothing that I don't. I've never ordered a car before!

Nice.

I know it'll be hard, but try not to let the anxiety get to you. It seems to help if you can keep busy enough with other things to put it out of your mind most of the time.

I ordered my '08 (which I still have), and before that I did the same for a 1979 Chevy Malibu that I kept (and kept modifying over the years) until 2012. There's a lot to be said for "everything you want and nothing you don't" with respect to having a car end up as a "keeper".

Well obviously if you need the car to automatically slow down, you also need it to turn on the wipers for you ...

:D
I have heard for the Euro 2017 Stangs, one of the mods is "the car makes you a cup of tea"

The one thing that you will have to remember, is if you get a fastback you are good to go on a 2 mile road course. Most will not let you on without a reinforced roll cage in a convertible, even for a fun type "drive your car on a track for a half-hour" type session. At least that is what I found when I looked into it at our local track.

Should be a great car! There is something special about ordering your own.
