I've dealt with this rattle for a couple years now, and ready to figure it out and I've finally been able to get okay capture of the sound on video. I've gone through every 'rattle' thread on this site, and I can't find one that seems to relate to this.

  • It occurs only when decelerating, without load, from 26 to 22 mph, exactly.
  • I thought it was under passenger side, but now fairly certain is near or in drivetrain tunnel
  • It is not coming from the interior, I've completely gutted car a couple times.
  • It is not struts, shocks, springs, or swaybars. I've replaced, checks, reinstalled multiple times
  • Comes and goes, or at least is more substantial at times than others
  • Hasn't gotten worse in 2 years, no performance issues
  • Doesn't matter the RPM
  • Doesn't matter in neutral, D, or S
  • Doesn't matter the driver mode or active exhaust setting
  • Holding shifter doesn't help
  • It isn't wheelwell liners, sides skirts, seats, or anything else I can find under car.
  • I think its transmission, but can't duplicate it at dealership.
Best audio I can get is at :15 second mark:

Check the emergency brake cable and attaching assembly found under the driver side trans tunnel. This has been a known source of tick/rattle as well and is hard to replicate unless in a certain RPM range. When the cable is loose, it vibrates or raps against the trans tunnel under certain conditions OR could be touching exhaust mid pipe. How to adjust the cable and assembly:

If that was not the source of the noise, then also check:

Check the trans block spacer plate, it’s a common issue across the S550 and F150 platform:

Check the driveshaft center support bearing assembly. There is a small aluminum plate attached to the bottom of it which comes loose and rattles - see this thread:

If equipped with MT82, check this thread for the source of clunk/rattle coming from passenger side or under car:
