I am trying to get my half shaft out and it seems stuck. How did you guys get the shaft to come out. I am super cautious because I have not done one before. Any help you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Never done it but I'm pretty you have to use a pry bar to get them out of the differential. I believe there is a small clip on the splines that keeps tension on the half shaft.

I was scared to pry because it was a ridge on the diff that looked like a seal

That's pretty much how you have to do it - if you try the pull/yank method (assuming the shaft was intact), you risk pulling the joint apart internally - which I've done more than once over the years.

There is a snap ring on the end of the shaft that expands into a groove in the differential's side gear. It is designed to require a defined amount of force applied before it can be pulled out; I don't recall the number at the moment. But that's what keeps the axle shaft from walking out of position on its own.

Please post a picture of the failed half-shaft if you have a chance.

This is how I suggest as well, but you can also use two prybars on either side of the axle to distribute the forces more evenly.

I will try that tonight. It is a tight space in there. Thanks for all the help.
