I downloaded that last night... that is what I was quoting from. :D

I used my ipad as a hot spot and tried again... entered the info but it presented a "bin" error.

I did not see a way to flash back to stock... the only way to get to that screen, I believe, is to have the download file.

Once you have the download file (PC3 file), you are presented with more screens (at least that is what the instructions show).

All that typing to say: you need the PC3 file...

You can get the pc3 file from Ford Performance... the "stock tune" for your car is on the usb device you have in your possession.

Can't say I care enough at this point to worry about this "issue".
I think that's your problem. You didn't care enough to read first, now you don't care enough or can't understand what you're reading. That and you are generally clueless with this stuff. Read the first paragraph I quoted above from the manual, it says that your stock tune is written into the PC3 tune file. It's the same file that they download to tune your car, just the first step is, it will write your stock tune into that file (add it to it).

LMAO, that USB device device doesn't store anything, it's just an interface. All storage is done on the computer. I'm not trying to help you jtmat, I'm trying to help others so you can quit being ignorant about it.

Actually, I read exactly what the instructions stated... and maybe misunderstood... as it says "This ProCal tool has been designed to deliver a performance calibration to your vehicle and will preserve a copy of your vehicle’s stock calibration, should you decide to remove the performance calibration for any reason." I read that as it would preserve a copy of the stock tune as my SCT did... guess that was my mistake. I really could not be bothered... bit tired from the holidays and wanted to enjoy the day... which I did.

Clueless? As I read you and TheLion go at it, I'm not sure which one of us is more clueless. At least I admit I'm new to all of this. As I say, people like you and TheLion read two or three things and think they are the expert on these matters. Go ahead, expert on....

End of the day, I'm sure everyone will figure it out... that is what a forum is for. I did not see your first post explaining exactly how all of this works... you are stumbling around like everyone else... ;)

But it is funny to me how many experts on this forum say their Grandmother can install this tune and then we have total blowouts on the install. All I'm thinking is "these people need duct tape". ;)

Ignoring the rest of your immature crap but for this part you weren't too far off. SCT uses a handheld similar to how ProCal has been. FP said this is the first they've used the computer program along with the USB interface adapter. So it would be easy to understand that someone that might not be familiar with cars and computers might confuse them. The SCT, as you said, and the ProCal handheld are in a sense little computers. They held the tune and the ability to transfer it to the ecu. With the computer, the software and the tune sit on the computer. That USB adapter is just a way to interface to the car's DLC (OBD2 port). I watched and saw my PC3 file when it was first downloaded was 3,711KB after loading the tune, that same PC3 file is now 7,726KB. As FP said in the instructions, that PC3 file now contains the stock tune as well. So I was trying to let people know that got the tune installed already to make sure they got that specific file because it is unique to them.

I never claimed to be an expert at loading the Ford ProCal tune on this car. Since I've never done it and didn't have the instructions, I couldn't be but I have probably loaded tunes in cars easily more than 50 times over the past 2 decades (well 18 years) and know plenty about it. So while I wasn't claiming to be an expert, I was trying to learn and share with everyone so we could figure it out together. And then here comes you... nothing but wining. When I share info out of the manual, you diminish it...

Time to load the tune

For anyone wondering how long it takes to load the tune, it took almost 16 minutes total. The software has a gauge that will go up to 100% 4 times.

Time = MM:SS

1) 10:14 Uploading the stock tune to the computer
2) 01:14 Erasing ecu tune
3) 03:45 Writing tune
4) 00:40 Verify? Missed what it was doing there.

So the tech at my Ford dealer called Ford Performance line and spoke with one of the Engineers. He in turn called me back in and installed the tune. In addition he handed me a thumb drive with a copy of of the stock tune. It cost me $90.40 (I already had installed the Ford CAI). Not a word was said about the CAI, and I was able to watch the complete installation of the tune. Cheap installation as compared as to what others have reported paying

it's very small.

The PC3 file you download with the tune is 3,711 KB
After your stock tune is added to it, it goes up to 7,726 KB

Today it would be difficult to find a flash drive that wouldn't be big enough.

That figures... early adopters "get it".... but that is fine, still worth it. :D

I need to call my dealer and get the pc3 file from them... hopefully they kept it... interesting to see what happens if they no longer have it for some reason.

They probably didn't read the instructions very well, running this on the PC instead of a handheld is new. Tell them the file is in the

Documents/ProCal3/calibrations folder on a PC
or
home/ProCal3/calibrations folder on a Mac

and should be called something with your VIN in the name. If yours is the only one they've done, it will likely be the only file in that folder.

Now, THAT is a valuable bit of information!!!
I was just wondering how screwed people would be if their factory tune disappeared.

You may have to go there and find the guy who performed the tune...

I emailed my contact at the dealer....

You may want to check the date of the file they give you... make sure it matches the date you had the tune installed.

It is possible if they did another it would write over your file. But again, I don't know.... just saying that is possible.

I'm not too concerned... FP and the dealer would have to figure it out...

It won't overwrite the file because the file name is unique using your VIN as part of the file name.
