All these suggestions on other cars most not 4 seat convertibles. Ive bought a new sports car every 1-2 yrs. since 1990. Having owned at least 1 of everything including a 2006 Cayman S (and tracked many of them) , IMO the best alternate suggestion for your criteria is the BMW M240i.

We just returned from a road trip to Blowing Rock and Boone, NC, and the EB/PP was a joy to drive around the Blue Ridge mountain roads.

Unfortunately, people of the Blue Ridge veriety are very fond of never been washed 1990's automobiles, especially mini vans, so speed is limited to the Yahoo in front.

Same problem we have in the Ozark mountains. Add RVs and trailers.

Depends on how important a convertible is to the OP. I know there are M4 convertibles, but not sure about M240i. 4-seat Convertible sports cars are a pretty limited set. Mustang, Camaro, M3/M4/M6, S5, 370. Having trouble thinking of more. In theory you could say 911, but who really considers those to be rear seats?

Definitely an option to investigate if a manual isn't a prerequisite. The caveat I always put on BMW products is to make sure that you have warranty and maintenance coverage for the duration of your ownership. The BMW appetite for maintenance is voracious and expensive if you're not doing it yourself.

Considering how a lot of companies have expanded their coverage I checked BMW and it looks like they've actually reduced their maintenance coverage - from four to three with much more restricted coverage.

Yes there are M240i Verts. The "real" M series options are far higher in price. Same with 911. 370 is a 2 seater. OP repeatedly specifies 4 seat Vert with an emphasis on handling.

Yeah, then M240i vert might be OP's best bet.
