Hey everyone,

I need help before I make my decision tomorrow..

I'm going to my Ford dealer tomorrow to either buy or order my new mustang, which will also be my 3rd but heres the problem..

The spec I want is a black exterior with red interior GT premium with almost every single option and theres only 4 of them within 500 miles of where I live and somehow, with my luck, my exact spec appeared right at my local dealership, where I purchased my previous 2 cars and ofcourse I went crazy because how awesome is that but... when I went to see the car in person, everything checked out except that I noticed the rear decklid of the car was horribly misaligned. I thought the trunk was open so I went to close it but realized it was just messed up. The car is a brand new car with 7 miles on the dash and is quite literally the exact spec I was gonna order. My previous 2018 Mustang GT got lemon lawed so I do not want to rush or make another purchase I'm going to regret but I just wanted to see if anyone else had this issue on their 18+ mustang, how it was fixed, and if I should let it from stopping me from getting the car? One more thing to add is that I have a lot of negotiating power on this specific car even though it is my exact spec because it has been sitting on the lot for 4 months and I am also buying my 3rd car from this exact dealer/sales guy. I will include a picture of the decklid below and would just love to get opinions before my purchase.

Until then
Jack

why dont you just point it out and have them realign the panel or order a new one/use it as another bargaining chip. because it is your exact spec i wouldnt let some body panels keep you from getting what should be a better deal than ordering i would assume. should be a simple enough fix assuming everything else checks out

It’s amazing what people nit pick over. What one sees as a huge flaw someone else may not even notice. Check out the trunk area and see if any damage may have been done and the dealership trying to cover it up and it won’t align because of that. If you don’t see any bring it up to the salesman to get it aligned properly and enjoy.

After what I went through with my 2018, I never want to go through that again so I just wanna make sure I dont make a mistake but I forgot to add.

Besides the misaligned decklid, one of the trunk struts also makes a small popping/clicking noise every time you open/close the trunk. Also, on the rear left, the bumper waves in and out. I just thought it was a sign that it's a no go for this car but if everyone besides me thinks its not a big deal, then I guess I am just over reacting and should just buy the car. I just wanted to get thoughts before I purchase it. It's $53,100 MSRP, with MagneRide, Safe & Smart, Active Exhaust, 10 Speed, and Performance pack so I think I could use all of these minior issues towards lowering the price by a minimum of $6K which I know is possible because everyone else I know has gotten more off a brand new, no issue full spec stang. The cars also been at the dealer for over 4 months so I think I have the upper hand here. I'll just include a pic of the rear left of the bumper below just for opinions.

The dealer shop should be able to adjust the trunk lid (common issue). I had to tweak the trunk lid on my 2015.

The fascia to rear fender line doesn't look bad (seen worse), but that might be able to be tweaked too.

yeah man i would be super nit picky with the sales guy. you know what to look for obviously so go over it super close and point out everything you see wrong. and see what happens. worst case its not the car for you best case you get some money off and/or the stuff gets fixed

If it’s “the” Mustang you have wanted - as others have said, ask to bring the car into one of their bays with bright lighting and go over the ENTIRE exterior of the car.

Tell the Sales guy you’re really interested in buying but also say and point out any items you want addressed. Have him write up a list of corrections this way your “IOUs” are in writing and neither he nor you can blame anyone but yourselves IF there are overlooked flaws after taking delivery.

That’s new car buying 101 right there....

Don’t ever take delivery of a vehicle at night UNLESS you have already done your due diligence during the day by going over the entire car.
