On the 2017 Mustang GT, what prevents water (rain) from going into the hooded heat extractor?

Thanks

What are you talking about..?
Are you asking about the two extractors on the Mustang's hood itself..?

Yes, the two extractors on the bonnet of the car.

Uh...nothing?

What prevents water in a down pour from splashing up into the engine bay to prevent what damage?

Don't worry about it, you're fine. You think Ford engineers didn't think through and test that before adding them? You should see the hilarious looks I get from people when I drive my 350 in the rain and steam from evaporating water is POURING out of the hood vent. And my car is still running.

Yes, the two extractors on the bonnet of the car.
The angle of the openings is what shields most water. The little that does make it in is either soaked up by the hood liner and/or diverted down away from anything vital.

Thank you very much GTBOB That’s the sort of answer I was looking for. Merely looking to learn, that’s all.

I work on computers and servers all day. Hence the tech side of me wants to understand how this works. That all...

As said, nothing is there to prevent it, but what gets in will not do any damage.

With the way people talk about their cars on here, you'd think their car was worth more than a Ford GT. Only driving their car when it's over 100 degrees outside and a 0% chance of rain.

I applaud you sir for driving your car like it was meant to be driven.

And back to the OPs question... water in, water out. As long as you aren't driving your car in the middle of the Pacific Ocean(or a flood where standing water is above your hood), you're fine. As hot as the engine gets, what water that does come through the heat vents, evaporates shortly, or falls to the ground.

You know, in future, I really need to be very clear and specific with my questions.

Thanks for all the responses.

Again, I merely wanted to learn, i.e. I was not concerned about water getting into the engine, and at the same time I knew a skilled engineer designed it a particular way. I merely wanted to learn and understand what would prevent water getting in...

It amazes me some people think they can define "meant to be driven" only to mean how they use a car.

I don't take mine out in bad weather because I don't need to, I have a daily driver for that.

Good for you...

The statement meant to be driven refers to someone that actually puts miles on their car instead of acting like it's a museum piece. In no way does that infer it has to be a daily driver or driven in bad weather like snow. Most of our cars will NEVER be worth anything in our lifetime.

Take my words and construe them to your own interpretation. That's what people usually do on forums right?
