Back in the day we used regular gaskets with a smear of Permatex Copper gasket maker on both sides.
Before that it was silver spray paint

I’ve seen a lot of your posts, obviously you know what you’re talking about. Curious though...I’ve always heard not to use spray coatings unless the gasket manufacturer recommends it.
So in your experience, you would say the spray is a good idea/necessary? Does it simply help it seal better...more forgiving of imperfections?

Thanks for the help!
It is more forgiving if there are imperfections and I have never seen it cause a failure. But just a thin coat is all you need. They say not to use it anymore because the gaskets already have a material to help seal so it is not needed to seal but to help with infections it works good
