Just curious if anyone here has driven the Dalton highway all the way to Deadhorse. If so, how far did you go, what time of year, what tires were you running, how was it, etc.?

I've seen a Miata do it, a 2003 Cavalier, a model T and there is a fellow on trip advisor that took his 2006 GT past the arctic circle (he didn't go all the way to Deadhorse https://www.tripadvisor.com/Profile/NEofAZ/photo/319851042?m=19905) on summer tires. I talked to the guy from top gear and he had the regular summer tires that come on a Miata.

I was just wondering if anyone had done it in a S550.

Haven't done it in an s550, but I've done it in a Tacoma. Not sure I'd want to mess up my nice car up there. It's been a few years though, so maybe it's improved now.

That was the first thing I thought of too. That said, I have gotten it in my head that I want to do it on the Mustang (just to see if I could) and, honestly, given my timeframe, I don't think that I could sit in the Yukon for that long. Aside from a '92 NSX and an old 300D, The Mustang is the only car that I have ever had that I can drive 12+ hours in and not feel miserable. On the route 66 trip, I was able to hit most of the older alignments, a set of old bridges in Indiana, and even the Dragon on the way back (~6200 miles and I wasn't driving for speed) in 12 days because I was able to knock out the long highway stretches without stopping. The only way I can make this trip work and really enjoy it is to have 6 really hard days up, two rest days, then 23 days to explore Alaska/Montana and slowly make my way back to NC.

I picture a Challenger GT being more comfortable for it. But lots of risk with rock damage especially from trucks and gravel areas and Id hate that to happen to a S550

Okay...that looks like an awesome drive! As above, I don't think I would do it in the Mustang, but definitely would in my lovely wife's Land Rover. That SUV was built for that kind of road!

My garage queen would scream like a school girl with gum in her hair. I would try it in my F150 if given the chance.

I would definitely do it for a million bucks. A million will buy quite a few new mustangs.

Did it years ago in a 3/4 ton Chev van with Michelin tires. Don't know what the road is like now but then received a lot of damage to the front (broken windshield and head lights, paint) from rocks. I would NOT take a nice car on that trip.

Because of the damage to the car, or because you didn’t think the Mustang would make it?

The car would make it but it would be covered in rock chips the road is 1 and a half lanes wide and is just loosely dumped gravel thats 1 to 2 inches in size i drove it 5 to 6 times a year to hunt the north slope in an jack up truck and got hit every time

Been up/down Dalton many times. I wouldn’t do it in a Mustang, conditions can be less than favorable. Good Luck, and I hope you make the Trek either way-be careful though-I visited Alaska, and ended up not leaving for 16 years-It’s beautiful!

That's the main thing I'm afraid of honestly.
