They can last for a while from what I researched if taken care of. I bought the plasti dip spray gun and kit so I could change the color of my car or wheels whenever I want. Also will be painting others for half the cost. It's all in how you prep, finish the coats/layers and then there's the final gloss coat. There is a hardening/sealing finish that from what I've seen lot haven't used, which hardens somewhat I guess you could say and it gives the paint a smooth to the touch feel, instead of the kind of grippy rubbery feeling you get if you just used the spray cans and no finishing coat like on the badges most do.

Yea it's pretty time consuming for sure and would have gladly painted your truck for you. I plastidipped my qtr windows as well instead of buying the vinyl for them. Came out pretty good.
