I've heard of one guy who broke a half shaft at the track, and he wasn't going to mess around with the stock ones anymore because they're not very strong.

Yep that's what I said___^

They should warranty it depending on your relationship with your dealer. You can buy a $152-$190 replacement from CJ pony parts depending on which side you break. I got a oem passenger side just laying on the shelf. The oem shafts are hollow and very weak. I didn't take it to the dealer because I knew I would just break it again. So I got Beefcake to hooked me up with a set of DSS 1400hp axles and DSS one piece drive shaft. I broke mine on a DR I haven't heard anyone doing it on a stock tire yet.

Read your manual it likely says racing voids the warranty.

This. Just depends on where you broke it *wink wink nudge nudge". If they even ask.

I wouldn't call fords roadside assistance to come get me off the track, obviously.

But, as long as you don't run sticky tires (drag radials), you really shouldn't have a problem.

Why would it be? Racing is clearly not covered.

Would you take it to Service and tell them you were racing and hope they cover it? Or would you lie to try to get something for nothing?

Where I come from, "right" and "wrong" don't vary, depending on the likelihood of getting away with it.

Well, just to play Devil's advocate, Ford did put a "burnout mode" on the car, which implies that part of the intended use is on the drag strip. If I'm just doing a run for fun, does that count as racing? If Ford markets the car for track use, shouldn't their warranty cover such use?

In any event, if I were break a half-shaft at the track, and if I expected to continue going to the track, I would not bother trying to get a new factory one through the warranty since it would probably just break again. I'd cut my losses and go to a beefy aftermarket one instead.

Also playing Devil's advocate: Ford sells cars that go faster than the speed limit. Will they pick up the fine for your speeding ticket? Including capability in a car doesn't legally (in regards to warranty) endorse its use. Not agreeing or disagreeing, but that's a valid point of view, IMO.
