Looking at a gt350
Wondering what people's track experience has been...to me it seems like a Trans Cooler is a must if one were to take their GT350 to the track for a 25 minute run as trans temps easily get over the 275 degree "limp" mode limit.

I am wondering if the same is true of the differential; is there a "limp" mode that gets triggered if the differential temp gets above a certain temp? Does anyone have an information as to how hot the diff temp gets on the track without a diff cooler?

Thank you.

The differential on a tech pack car doesn't have a temperature sender, so there's no limp mode associated with the rear diff getting hot.

no temperature sender that would trigger limp mode also means do dash indication of what the diff temp is?

any opinions about whether a diff cooler would be necessary for 25 minute track periods?

I think it's necessary which is why I spent all the extra time and money to install the FP diff cooler. The cooler turns on at 270 degrees probably about ten minutes into my sessions and stays on the whole time thereafter.

There's another thread on 6G from GT owners going into limp mode due to the diff overheating to the tune of around 300 degrees. Since the GT350 puts more stock power into the diff than the GT, I have no reason to believe that the diff temps in the GT350 are any lower.

In any case, you can change the diff oil many times to equal the cost of adding the cooler - it's a time and convenience decision you need to make.

The differential cooler is an easier installation than the trans cooler. I find the differential runs about 30 degrees cooler than the transmission as things heat up. But with no cooler it will rapidly heat up past the transmission temperature due to the limited oil in the case. With a cooler added, you can easily double the oil capacity in the system, which will have multiple benefits for track or street.
