I bought a Timpte lowering trailer and decided to use the over-the-wheel strap system to secure the car. That meant installing versa-track on the deck and since I didn't want the tires to sit on the track, I designed and 3D printed some wheel chocks to keep the tires off the track and also locate the car in the right position on the trailer. The problem is, you really need to be dead center on the chocks or else it looks really bad with part of the tire hanging off an edge. So, I needed a method to help with centering the car on the approach.
I measured the distance from the center of the car to the center of the seat and steering wheel and found it to be roughly 14.5". I made a couple of "sights" that sit on the hood, the front one indexes on the hood vent grill and the aft one indexes on the washer nozzle. The "sight" part of them are 14.5" from the center of the car. Then I used a 1/4" wide pinstripe on the trailer at 14.5" off center so I could use the sights on the hood to aim the car to the line on the trailer. For kicks, I found a laser sight that mounts to to the front sight so as long as it's not too sunny I can see the green dot on the stripe and keeping everything in line it lines the car up perfectly.
Here's a demonstration I videoed for my buddy Jon (@pilotgore ). Sorry for the crappy phone camera work, hard to focus on doing the task and operating the camera.
