GT350 is weighed!

While I'd rather have it weigh 200 lbs less, it fits pretty well into TT2. Power (rwhp)/Weight is 8:1. With me in the car and finishing with a quarter tank of fuel it should be roughly 8.15 so a little room for error. The Boss was kind of in no man's land at 8.6 or so.

I'm ok with how these cars perform at the price point they're at.

Lighter weight doesn't always equal better performance...

All very valid valid points. Carbon fiber isn't cheap right now still. And big parts add weight. Big brakes, big wheels and tires, big driveline, shocks struts. I say I'd rather have an overbuilt car that's a little heavier than a lightweight but is pushing its limits.

3800 plus lbs is heavy, period. now that Chevy delivered at what Ford led us to believe they would do, maybe it will force ford to up their game. Before the release of the S550, weight was the biggest thing most people were concerned about.

Too bad the new Camaro looks like a rolling turd, the performance / dollar is very good.

I have not seen a 2016 camaro on the scales with the same brakes/tires/MR/coolers/etc as the GT350 TP. Time will tell on that one

Exotic materials aren't necessary for weight reduction from a manufacturer's perspective. Ford already has new boron-steel and aluminum production processes in use with other vehicles that both reduce weight and the amount of raw materials necessary to make a strong and safe vehicle, and they will eventually be used with the Mustang as well.

We all want more, but don't want to pay for it.
The more exotic it is, the more it costs.

I think the GT350 and Ford found the balance between
performance and costs and it looks sweet also

Aftermarket 2pc rotors front and rear will likely take a bunch of weight out.

Its more of a 1pc cast aluminum design, like what BMW did in the 90s on the Euro M3. A light weight motorsport rotor and machined aluminum hat will be lighter than stock.

Caddy aluminum chassis is where the Camaro save about 200lbs.

THIS ↑↑↑↑↑ is a bigger deal than most think. The number of different types of aluminum sheet, different steel sheet, extruded aluminum components in the pillars and rocker, and cast/forged aluminum sections of the tub are important. The newer style of rivets, dual metal spot welds and lots and lots of epoxy in the tub also helps it.

Aside from reducing weight, these evolved construction methods are also making the car stronger and stiffer for a longer period. The penalty is that repair costs are going to be higher.

Comparing the new Camaro tub to an S197 or S550 tub is no contest. Ford has done some good work making them stiffer and stronger, but they are still previous generation compared to the new GM tub.

The PFC 2pc rotor for the 1M is 4.2lbs lighter per rotor than the GT350/M3 cast aluminum hat 1pc rotor design:

Since the GT350 has a much larger rotor, the weight reduction would likely be greater.

No wonder motortrend said not to drive the R before the normal gt350 version! There is a 130 lbs difference.

You take out the rear seat & belts on the base GT350, which is the lightest after "R" you would knock off about 40-50lbs off the R 130lbs.

Funny thing though, with exhaust, rear seat delete and lighter wheels, the base gtpp can scale less than 3640 lbs!
