Well 7 years and almost 114k miles and my GT left me dead on the side of the road for the first time. Service charging system light came on and I had just enough time to find a large parking lot to pull off in and wait for a tow.

These alternator are ridiculously expensive. Looks like levittown has the best price but it's a 200amp for the GTs with heated and cooled seats, not the 175 amp my car has now.

Does anyone know if I install the 200amp will I have to program anything in forscan or is this a plug and play swap? The kit comes with the idler pulley and new belt so hardware wise I should be good. Just trying to get some quick input so I can pull the trigger.

No, the only thing you have to do is the reset. Which I think is pumping the brakes three times and flashing the lights or something like that you could look it up online.

Curious why you think it's the alternator? Did you have the system checked?

The electrical connector to the alternator is a known failure point
Especially the “sense” wire which is the one in the middle
Rule out that b4 buying a new alternator

Hello; Fair point. Back a decade or two I was replacing alternators on an F-150 every year or so. Replaced the short wire harness which plugged into the alternator and no more problems.

This is why I asked if he's had the system checked. These systems are more complicated than they used to be. Just assuming the alternator is at fault can get expensive.

So, was it the alternators or the harness? Another reason to check before loading the parts cannon.

Hello; After a few new alternators I replaced the short harness that plugged into the alternator and went about two feet. After that no more alternators until the truck was totaled many years later. I do not know what the fault was in the factory original part. Someone suggested the harness and that worked.
Could mean the fault in the harness was killing the alternators. But a new harness with the last new alternator did the trick.
I do go along with getting the alternator checked before replacing it if that is feasible.
