GT-350 Transmission

Not that I'm planning on doing this any time soon, just curiosity. Has anyone put a Tremec 3160 from a GT-350 in their Coyote powered GT? I'm sure it's a much stronger trans, and considering the potential weakness of the MT-82, it may not be a bad upgrade down the road when the prices come down and we start grenading our 82's.

I've thought about this also. Idk if it would be a direct swap or not but I'm curious to see if it could be done.

it is lighter, and requires cooling in any track conditions. before you do any swap be sure you understand the differences between the (2) available transmissions, and if you will require retrofit cooling.

I would kinda think it would. The modular platform uses the same bellhousing pattern.

Our 82s don't use any kind of a cooler? I'm sure plumbing in a cooler wouldn't be hard, the trans has an internal pump so all you'd have to do is mount a cooler and run lines to it.

Mt82 is far from weak. Lots of people running 700-800 easy. I would say is better than the shelby tranny.

^this. The Mt82 by itself is fine. Its other parts that are weak links, the shifter and the clutch line being big ones. My car is 100% stock minus the Steeda clutch spring to give a little more feel, I have had zero issues with the factory equipment.

I've got to agree. I have seen no evidence of the MT-82 being weak. Sure, it has it's quirks but once you get those worked out (clutch helper spring, transmission bracket/shifter assembly, etc.), I'd think you'd be good to go for a while.

Perhaps the Tremec is a better transmission in some ways (I have no idea in what way, just saying), just not sure it's worth the money to make the swap but obviously, to each their own.

The way the OP worded his post it reminded me of my 2011 Subaru. Back then, there was a UUUuuugee (Donald Trump voice) difference between the WRX 5-speed and STI 6-speed in regards to strength and reliability. That was a big deal. With the Stang's, I'm just not so sure. At least I haven't heard/seen anything that would lead me to believe it's a difference.

On another note, I assume the Tremec from the GT350 is also a remote mounted shifter like the MT-82? Out of curiosity, does anyone know how common this type of installation is on cars in general? I've just never heard of it before buying my first Mustang/American car and I've probably had 6-8 manual cars up to this point. Just wondering...

The MT82 is rated at 375 ft-lbs and the strongest version of the 3160 is rated at 405 ft-lbs, weakest 325. The 3160 also uses a remote mount shifter.

I have driven a gt350 and tranny is more nochy than our mt82. I love this tranny.

Its very common in FWD cars, not so much RWD, and AWD is either or depending on design.

Just want to add that the 375 ft-lbs rating is at 10,000lbs for mt82, our cars weight in at less than 4000lbs so it can handle a lot more than our stock 370 ft-lbs from factory. A lot of people think these are maxed out stock and they are not thats about 650+ ft-lbs at 4000lbs.

Tremec transmission shift very notchy I would never change out mt82 with a tremec even if they offered it to me for free.

Your lost if you think the mt-82 is better, its the worst manual trans ford ever put in the mustang. Just take a look at the other threads started right here in this forum ...chinese junk plain and simple! why do you think ford doesn't use it for its higher teer cars, because they know its junk as well.

Chinese junk? Lol the components are made in Germany assembled in china. Same as our I phones that are great phones.

I have drivin gt350 and owned 2 tremec transmission and the mt82 is by far best shifting tranny and holds the power.
