Except the Pony on the front is what makes it a Mustang. Except Fox bodies, that's the identifying trait of Mustangs. It's the reason why a lot of people buy Mustangs, for that heritage and tradition that's wrapped up in the pony badge on the front grille. That's sort of like asking why they ruin the lines of Rolls Royces with that Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament they slap on all of them.
At least they can hide it like this

or change it to something like this

Makes you wonder how often the BMW engineers have cursed the traditional BMW/Buick front end on their performance models.
When I was thinking about an M235 it kind of seemed crazy that the car had to lose fog lights to allow more grill surface area.

I'll just put in an aftermarket grill as soon as they sell a non-badge version. I think it'll look much better that way.
Unfortunately the aftermarket will only offer those hideous so called billet grilles and the expanded metal ones. There won't be anything that looks like stock but w/o the pony.

I hope you are wrong about that, but given what is available for the previous gen I know what you are saying. If someone would make a stock grill without the pony they would have lots of interested buyers including me.

You would buy one.

Find 100 other people to put deposits down on them so that a manufacturer can see a feasible business case for it and get it done.

There is very little chance a stock 'ponlyless' grille will be made. I went through this same thing when I had my '05. I even tried to make one myself by butchering 3 stock grilles to make one good one. I eventually had to just wait for the '08 Bullitt grille.

that was the funniest thing i have read in a while. LOL

Not sure why that is funny?

It does affect airflow.

Why do you think the engineers at chevy dremeled out the chevy bot tie (now affectionally known as the flowtie) on the new z-28?

Because the engine was losing out on several hundred cfm of air.

I'm sure that will be the same in our cars.

The Z28 hollowed out the bowtie for a reason, it DOES block a considerate amount of airflow and creates turbulence instead of the air going straight into the radiator fins. For people open tracking their car it can make a good difference, for daily driving not so much. Its not for power its for cooling.

The pony isn't affecting anything. Try to find a really good picture of the grille. Notice how much of the grille is closed off. (probably almost half of it) If they were hurting for airflow, they could just open up a few more of those honeycombs.

They started this in '05. There was so much air coming in through the grille, it was actually lifting the hood up at high speeds.

the z28 also has a smaller opening for air flow, so something like a badge is a more considerable factor. The s550's grill opening is a gaping maw in comparison.
