Naw...I rather spend it on a car system. You can blast a car system everytime you drive...whereas at home you have to mind the other people in the house and also the neighbors.

Considering I will be in college soon. I defiantly won't pay someone to do this, just to save money and it won't go into a home theater system :lol: Also I am waiting on more exhaust options before I do this. What brand are you all throwing in your rides?

WAAAAAY better can be subjective when it comes to audio. Granted I wouldn't put Kmart speakers in my car but Memphis Audio is a not a terrible brand. Being the nitpicky audiophile that I am I prefer JL Audio, Polk, JBL and Kenwood speakers...in that order. Work with what's in your budget and keep in mind the speakers in the display booth won't sound the same in your car. You don't need to spend $700 on a set of component speakers to get good sound and truth be told most people won't notice a difference in sound between a $700 set and a $400 set from the same company.

As for the install price, that doesn't seem horrible for a full install as it will take an entire day for them to do that kind of job correctly. Ask who is doing the install and find out what certifications they have. If they aren't MECP certified I'd walk away. Cheaper isn't always better when it comes to audio installation work.

I install audio/video equipment professionally and for fun and honestly the quote seems pretty dead on if they're a good shop. My question is which audio system do you have in the vehicle. The reason why the quote is so high is you're paying for a summing interface(cl-ssi) and a dsp(cl-441dsp). Installing the two pieces parts and labor is about $500. The clean sweep(cl-441dsp) is used to clean up the outputs from the factory headunit because its tuned for the crappy stock speakers and the summing interfaced(cl-ssi) is used on audio system that have some type of crossover system in the headunit or factory amplifer. The cl-ssi takes the different frequencies and sums into a full range so you can add an aftermarket 4ch amp. But the cl-ssi isn't needed on most factory base audio systems. There could be other issues which the components may help out like active noise cancelling or that fake engine noise through the speakers. Besides that you're paying $110 for a tweeter which is a little ridiculous and honestly you can get a decent set front components for $150 and some regular rear coaxial for $100.

Another thing to consider is the 12" JL sub and box - if they build a ported box to proper spec, it's going to eat a ton of your trunk. Depending on what you are after, I'd go down to a 10" to get a smaller box that will fit well under the rear shelf.

The $450 labor isn't bad. Be sure to ask about brackets and any fab work that may be required - those little things can add up quickly.
