Is there a drag-specific tire in that size or is that a street tire?
28" usually is a slick or Bias Ply. I think if you have an auto you want to go with a 17 drag radial. Probably something like a 275/40/17 which translates to a 26" tire. I don't know what the difference of 28"vs 26" is on the automatic. I know with the manual the increased gearing of the smaller tire is beneficial as long as you can stay in 4th. Bigger power setups 28" is better to allow more MPH in 4th gear.

I was asking specifically about the tire size you mentioned.

305/45/17 drag radial is 28"
275/40/17 drag radial is 26"
325/40/19 tires he has on the car now is 26.7"

I don't know of a 19" track only tire other than what he has already if thats what you are asking. I know Micky Thompson has some streetable tires in that range not sure of the sizes. 17" or 15" is where you want to be for track tires.

yeah 17's are the ticket for me along with 275/40/17's cost me $1069 trying to get am to mount and balance them free but they said only do that for sets of 4!

also something to consider is a 325/30/19 is a 26.7" diameter tire which will probably raise your final drive compared to a typical 28" setup. Not sure if that will hurt/help with an automatic.
MT website say 27.0. Stock tires are 27.7. This will raise my rpms 200. This is a good thing, as FLP said to switch to a 4.10 to get more out of the high rpm band of the CJ. I'm thinking shorter tire is a little more gear and will help.

they probably just rounded it off to 27. I always thought for automatics 3.31 was the sweet spot for the NA cars but maybe I'm wrong. I know my buddy was running 10s on his NA s197 with auto 3.31. Not sure what tire it was.

Mine is manual, Dominate is auto. That is the difference of some of his whp difference I believe.

Also the rpm powerband will be a huge factor in the "sweet spot".

Oh I thought you both were auto. Yes, than the 26.7" tire would be more ideal giving you higher final drive. With a 7800 redline you should be able to hit 126 in 4th.

Evil 5.0 how's the car holding up? Ever since seeing the success with your build I am beyond excited to hopefully get my parts ordered within the year and "copy" your setup!

Thank you, it's a compliment. It is holding up great. I usually only drive it on weekends, but when I do it feels strong. I am patiently waiting on the weather to get better here so I can post up some track results. I also have 6GR wheels coming with Michelin PP 4's for the street. I ordered a couple extra rims for some 325/30/19 MT S/S drag radials to hook it up. I have never been able to go all out yet, so it should be interesting. Sad part is I weighed it and she is a heavy 4000 lbs with full tank. At track with new wheels and 1/2 tank I'm hoping for 3950 or less.

I'm taking bets on what she will run! Lol

im ordering my 6gr's and suspension in the next few month (waiting on the wife to start working again once she is off maternity leave). I can see it touching low 11's to high 10's with good hook etc rather easily. but then again im still programming my brain to the s550's since I came from a foxbody platform for 7 years lol

I also came from a Foxbody, had it from 1994-2009, roughly 8 years ago... it was a little faster at mid 8's @160

No nitrous.... I don't believe, maybe FI Turbo
