The vehicles could operate a maximum of only three hours despite the real need being twelve hours.

But EV's are superior to ICE, just ask Greg.

I know that some claim those who post meme's are low brow, but hey, it if helps, I have 3 masters Degrees (Taylor, AGTS, PENN) and a PhD (Harvard). Wesley makes a great point here. Perhaps we should follow it and show more respect to each other.

Old Vlad Sore... you got owned. Nothing new, but this one was brutal! Greg put his entire gas pedal shoe right into you. :cwl:

Isn't it ironic how the fiercest advocates of electric vehicles on this forum, and of the climate crisis, and of the governments telling us what to do, are those who don't actually own one? Put your money where your mouth is, sell your Mustang and your Lotus and buy a Tesla. The we'll talk about the merits of EVs and of saving the planet. Until then you're nothing but a hypocrite. So before throwing stones at me you may want to look into the mirror.
I'm not a 'fierce advocate' of EV's. But as it happens we do own a PHEV that we charge from our PV array - so mirror checked and all OK!

Interesting article. So much for range and towing capacity. All of this is being "figured out" much quicker than people thought.

Ram’s new 1500 EV truck has ‘unlimited’ range, thanks to built-in gas generator
Stellantis is making a new electric-propelled Ram truck with a large EV battery pack linked to a gasoline engine that can extend range for long trips without frequent charging stops. The automaker’s new pickup, the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, claims to go up to 690 miles on a full tank and charge.
Acceleration is pegged at 4.4s which is plenty fast for a massive truck with 14,000 pounds of towing capacity and 2,625 lbs payload. At a fast Level 3 charger, the battery will be able to take 50 miles of range in just 10 minutes
There’s a 3.6-liter V6 engine in the bay that fires up when the battery gets low, which powers a 130kW onboard generator that keeps the Ramcharger’s electric motors rolling. (The engine does not directly drive the powertrain.) On gas, the truck is only capable of 174 horsepower — but with a charged battery, Stellantis says it’s capable of 663 peak output.

In your imagination. You could use a bit of work on your reading skills. Now go back to sleep.
You should listen to Kenny Rogers. He has great advice for you. :cwl: :cwl:

Anyway, am going to sleep. Thanks for caring about my well-being.

Now you go massage that shoe impact.

Can't make this up.

100% agree. I would suggest you start doing that and actually look closely at what you 'research' .

Use your own judgement to decipher opinion from fact, question sources to make sure that they are quoting other people correctly (you slipped up badly on that one) and don't fall for confirmation bias which is very easy to do. If 99% of people think something is right and have data to back it up, you really should question the 1% that don't as they are probably missing something or misunderstanding, assuming they are not deliberately trying to deceive.

As somebody with degree level education you will know that one of the first things you learn is how to assess the validity and authenticity of published work. You will understand references, statements of interest and conflicts declared on papers. You will understand statistics and how to interpret data assuming you have a scientific degree?

All the more baffling why you quoted Shellenberger who clearly lacks expertise in the area he was giving an opinion on and directly misquoting according to the original author of the work. Basic level thinking and judgement should have set alarm bells ringing there?

That is a range extender EV, the BMW i3 had that in 2013!

Mazda going there own way in a similar form with the MX30 R-EV with a rotary engine - not sure that one will catch on anywhere else!

As I was pointing out a while ago all car makers are going down the hybrid / EV platform now so the primary drive will be an electric motor with power provided to the motor by a mixture of batteries, fuel cells, ice engines. The reasons are that electric motors are actually fantastically efficient and simple ways to propel a vehicle with lots of torque from zero rpm. Once you have your platform plus electric motor it is then much easier to add the energy source to that with very little additional work. The MEB platform is a good example but the upcoming PPE platform is even more so. These two platforms will cover pretty much every vehicle the VW group make with a standard motor setup (1,2 or 3). As technology moves forward it is really easy to say replace the batteries with solid state batteries, or add a fuel cell without having to change the platform / electric motor.

Honestly, electric motor drive is the future, the ONLY future, simply because that is the only platform flexible enough to allow everything else around it. That is why car makers are only investing in this.

Hello; A type of hybrid. Perhaps not the more common sort but with both a gasoline/diesel engine and an electric motor. The difference appearing to be the ICE engine does not have the capacity to drive the wheels. Maybe a simpler way to build the vehicle over an integrated electric+ ICE drivetrain, but has a flaw.
One of my college student neighbors had an early Ford SUV hybrid. It was older. The regeneration circuits went bad so the battery was not charging when she drove. Parts no longer available. But she could still drive on the ICE.

Negative ability to understand the situation on jtmats part as his reply strongly indicates he/she thinks the EV only range issue is solved.
Greg's did get that part correct with an unusual twist in the wording.

So a hybrid. Shakes head
Hello; Yes a hybrid combination of an ICE & an electric motor drive train. Saw an article recently where a pure EV owner had rigged a gasoline powered generator into the back of his EV. He apparently ran the generator to charge the battery of the pure EV on a trip.
