The price blows some previous comments in this thread out the water.
Far as some of the recent comments -- seems some of you have reverted back to "we want it now" vs. the reality. The reality is there is a plan that will take decades. It does not matter how much you moan about "now".
BYD launches affordable Dolphin EV in Japan to unlock market dominated by Toyota
China’s largest automaker, BYD, is set to take on Toyota on its home turf. BYD launched the all-electric Dolphin hatchback starting at ¥3.63 million ($24,570) in Japan Wednesday as it looks to take on Toyota head-on.
The Chinese automaker introduced the Dolphin EV at a launch event in Tokyo on Wednesday. Powered by a 70 kWh battery, the base model provides a range of 250 miles (400 km).
The extended-range variant offers up to 295 miles (476 km) range with a 150 Wh battery pack. It will cost around ÂĄ4 million ($27,080).
So you are ok with 1) child labor, and 2) slave labor.
both to mine the raw battery materials and then the vehicle in CHINA.
Bet it not pass on safety test here, not one.
Go back to the science thread you 3 killed off.

So you are admitting to only following and reading things that fit your echo chamber.
Not that anyone is shocked.
So you’ll be willing to avoid a lithium battery in all of your electronic devices then?
Or does your lithium come from a different source?

I don’t suppose that YOUR echo chamber ever mentions that Australia is currently the largest producer of lithium. Or would you have all those union workers out of their jobs?

“In 2022, Australia was the world leader in terms of lithium mine production, with an estimated output of 61,000 metric tons. Chile and China ranked second and third, with lithium production totaling 39,000 and 19,000 metric tons, respectively”

Hello; I forget the exact name for the coffee beans but seem to recall there was a way to only buy coffee beans from acceptable sources. Same sort of idea about free range chicken eggs versus caged chicken eggs.
So perhaps some sort of stickers can be added to the batteries made from union lithium??

I do not know if lithium is "fungible" similar to money in that it does not matter where it comes from. So, with the very high demand for the stuff someone will use that which is mined by children and/or slave labor.

A thing seems clear enough so far. The EV agenda will absorb most any practice no matter how evil or polluting in order to achieve the goals. I personally could give up most electronics requiring lithium batteries. A crux of the matter, in part, is the EV agenda has "mandates" against the sale of ICE coming in a few years. This comeback of yours "So you’ll be willing to avoid a lithium battery in all of your electronic devices then?" in very much hollow. I do not know how many cell phone batteries it takes to match the lithium in a single EV.

I can see an honorable way to deal with child and slave lithium mines. The champions around the world can refuse to allow it into the battery market. I guess such would slow down the "green energy" and EV transition somewhat.

Eh, I think I would pass on buying ”Flipper”, even if it was available in the US. You get what you pay for.

Now we know why you push EV's so hard.

The Dolfin (sic) proves the only country to profit from EV's will be China.

You don’t seem to mind if oil and gas workers or auto workers (who help manufacture ICE vehicles) are out of jobs. I call this phoney outrage on your part.

They don't want to force their hands, as it cost more, just like the rags on these holier than thou. backs.
As long as they can't see it, they could care less.

Hello; May I speculate that these Dolfin EV's will use electricity in the manufacture process that is generated by burning coal.
By now we are used to the various justifications some champions use to excuse the actions of China. While i understand what the champions are doing, I still do not quite get it.
China is now not only the greatest single national polluter/emitter, but China is also actively putting to operation something like three to four brand new coal fired power plants every month. This building of new coal fired power plants has been going on for some time now.

Saw yesterday where a billionaire is to spend 500 million on a campaign to close "ALL" remaining coal fired power plants in the USA.

Really? Now you care about child and slave labor? Wow. :cwl:

And care about doing business with CHINA? Is that better than your unwavering support of OPEC?

Honestly, your replies are like 6th grade. Give me a break! Can't you guys/gals do any better?

Nothing has changed since we discussed this several months ago. Go back and read that.

Go back to the science thread you 3 killed off.
If the science thread was dead, you wouldn't be talking about it constantly! It is going strong. I posted some good info for you to read yesterday. I'm sure you read it.

You can read his steady stream of consciousness if you want. Did you agree with his point? Maybe you can summarize it in two or three sentences. He often gets lost in his writings. :cwl:

Your kind give a crap about American workers. Or Americans in general. Spare me!!!!

You don't care how many people are working in sustainable jobs, the covid situation, etc. You people don't even care about Capital Police, or authority in general.

Go back to posting your silly memes.

Here is another affordable option for you. You guys were going on and on about price and how it will never drop.

Kia is reviving its affordable mini Ray EV, Korea’s first electric car
Korea’s first all-electric production car is due for a resurrection. Kia is set to revive the Ray EV next month, an entry-level minicar, to meet the growing demand for affordable electric cars.
Kia first introduced the Ray EV in December 2011, a close relative to the gas-powered Ray CUV, as Korea’s first 100% electric production car.
Powered by a 50 kW electric motor and a 16.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, the Ray EV offered up to 86 miles (139 km) range on a full charge. Although it may not seem like much today, with many EVs offering well over 300 miles range, the minicar was designed for domestic city travel.
Update August 23: Kia officially revealed plans to launch the new entry-level Ray EV, starting at $20,500 (27.35 million won). Pre-orders are set to open on Thursday, August 24.
