Do they?The electricity companies already have that level of control. What are you going to do? Go back to candles? Run a generator? Seriously?
I have solar panels (to charge our car for free amongst other things) and could be self sufficient in electricity with a little bit more investment in storage.
So no - they don't have any control in fact
