Buying Used..

When I buy a new car, I always turn down the extended warranty. I assume that if something major is going to fall apart it will happen during the warranty period. However, if you are buying used...I do recommend getting an extended warranty.
I have had three relatives buy used vehicles during the last two years. The vehicles had all just passed the factory warranty periods. They all bought extended warranties. They all ended up using those warranties...one totaled transmission ($6K), one engine, and one defective suspension.
You never know how hard the previous owners were on their vehicles or how well they kept them up.

If you're buying new, you can always buy the extended warranty later on. On my last car, I bought an extended warranty just before the old one expired.
