After digging around and trying to come up with a plan as I'm prepping to build my mustang I want to go FBO N/A power house however is getting the gen 2 cj worth the hassle as you have to lower the engine and I personally don't have the tools or skills to drop the engine so I will be taking it to a shop if need be but i'm asking if the gen 2 is worth it rather then a gen 1 because you can't really plug and play a gen 1 without porting and changing some stuff during installation pros and cons but this is my first mustang I got and my first build so ill ask is a gen 2 cj truly worth lowering the engine

IMO, its not worth the trouble, and the hp to money ratio doesn't add up. Headers, catback, bigger injectors (FIC1000CC) and a e85 tune or a 91-93 tune. Also suspension work BMR cradle lock out and dowl alignment a good set of tires and SEND IT. Intake cams, and bigger throttle body aren't worh the money.

Agreed. A nicely ported 18 manifold will make just as much power (if not slightly more) as a CJ up until 72-7300 or so at which point it will start to drop power while the CJ will keep it flat. If you plan on squeezing every last hp and shifting at 8000+ then yes the CJ is worth it, otherwise no.

Think of it in terms of average power over your shift curves, not total power at redline. Especially with a manual where your shift extensions are much lower, you will spend more time at 5-6000rpm than at 7500rpm. At that point, the 18 manifold is equal to or better than the CJ.

Unless you're planning like a 9-11kRPM build its not really worth it. Under that a ported 18/GT350 IM would be a much cheaper solution while giving you 90-99% of the gains.
