I have 3.55 gears with a roush blower full bolt ons I have 2 friends that have 3.15's and we have IDENTICAL SETUPS I mean same exhaust pulley tuner everything to a t even same wheel and tire setup! One friend has a vmp r blower and myself and other buddy have Roush's and on the same day the same track the cars are literally hundreths apart! I ran on a hot day cars best is 9.60 at 144 but on one particular day we all raced the cars ran [email protected] mine my other buddy with R. Blower and 3.15 's ran [email protected] we were side by side.On another track trip another buddy with a roush like mine ran 9.756 @142(3.15) to my 9.750@142(3.55) so my point is there is no difference!! Their is a big difference in gearing with stick cars that are fi.Especially if u go to the track,373 gears cause a shift to 5th and are really hard to launch with.331's are most guys choice with a stick fi car.
Absolutely correct you want less gear FI especially on a stick.My tuner says that less gear has a better mechanical advantage meaning it takes less horsepower (fewer teeth) to turn .Also less gear shows more power on the dyno too I know its load factors and what not but still. If you notice all the really fast power adder cars run way less gear I even hear some stick guys putting 3.15's to stay in the boost longer which makes sense. Vmp's very own Rebecca Starky mustang runs 2.73 I believe and goes 8's! Also I noticed on my own car my 3.55's I don't need to stall as high because I'm making good power 800+ rwhp but also spin more at the track when the prep isn't great than my buddy's with 3.15. So more gear makes launching more difficult however the cars all run the same times my car maybe a few hundredths quicker sometimes but my point is less is more in this case.
