Hey all, I know this has somewhat been covered but for most it seems to be there DD. This is a none DD car, 2017 gt PP1 MANUAL car 3.73 gears, going with a gen 5 whipple in spring should i switch to 3.31 or 3.55 gears in the rear and why.... My use for the car is just a weekend fun car lots of highway races!! and the odd day at the 1/4 strip for fun maybe 2 times a year max.

I would drive the car with the 3.73 gears for a while before changing gears. The scientific way to do things is to try one mod at a time.

if it wasn’t a PP car i wouldn’t mind that, but 3.73 is going to make 1-2 second gear useless pretty.

That's your guess.

Try it first, then decide. IMO, 3.55s would be better that 3.31s. But I'd still prefer the 3.73s. Just get the wheels/tires/suspension sorted out properly. That's more important than the gearing.

You'll definitely need Steeda's Stop The Hop, horizontal rear links, and you should do their Pro Action adjustable shocks & struts. Plus tires that can get the power to the ground better than the shit Pirellis tires your car came with. At a minimum, get the Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss.

I don't have a whipple but I tried the play with the 3.73s first and see how I liked method, fun initially but when it comes to races, they're no fun in my opinion when boosted. You have to shift gears too much and too quick since you'll just blow through the rpms. You'll definitely eat up street tires with 3.73s. I do agree that you should try it for yourself first though. 1 thing at a time.

I'm switching to 3:15's from 3:55s on my boosted gt in the spring. I will get better use of 1st gear, right now it's useless even with a tire...

My 14 Shelby had 331,I thought it didn't hook up well off the line.my 2010 Shelby had 355,much quicker
No doubt 373 will have quicker launch, but lower high end speed.with my 10 I hit 125 at top of 3rd gear
.

Built 6r80 auto, 3200 FTI stall, 3:31 won't be much different from 3:55's...besides I was able to get the 3:15 diff in great shape for $175.00...

Go with the 3.55s! https://www.lethalperformance.com/ford-performance-2015-2018-mustang-3-55-gear-set.html
