The jobs that are being eliminated are on the ICE side. The monies will be used to fund future investment in EV technology.

I‘m an ICE guy but the handwriting is on the wall. EV‘s are here to stay, The billions being spent will improve them in all areas. Battery tech will improve and new materials will be used. Range continues to get better as will the charging networks.

You can post negative EV stories from here to doomsday, it will change nothing. But if it makes you feel better. :like:

Hello; I started teaching in 1970. legislation was passed back in the 70's that were to move the USA to the metric system by 1980. I began teaching the metric system in every science course. Thing is 1980 came and went and the old imperial measures are still around. There were compromises as in the speedo now has MPH and KPH readings, with MPH usually the larger font.

I grew up using inches/feet so tend to think in them. I like the metric system measures as they are so much easier to figure and use. I do wish the change over had been made, but it never quite took hold. One side effect is I have a lot of SAE sized tools and a lot of metric tools. Newer vehicles can have a variety of both types of fittings.

So, post how the writing is on the wall and how some bright day the problems will be fixed if it makes you feel better. Might still be too early to make that call. Might be we have both on the roads. Not clear why an ICE and EV sharing the road cannot be a way to go. I get the true believers have the agenda to be rid of fossil fuels because of environmental notions. Too early to make a call for me. Keep telling yourself you are an ICE guy if you wish, but it does not read that way.

ICE and electric are going to exist side by side for many, many years to come. Millions of current ICE vehicles are not going anywhere in the foreseeable future. But the number of new ICE vehicles are going to diminish over the next decade. That is not going to change.

Not sure exactly how I read but the facts are the facts whether I like them or not. The availability of new ICE vehicles will decline over the next decade. More and better EV’s will come in the market.

And, just as a reminder to someone who was around in the 70’s the reduction and eventually elimination of fossil fuels in motor vehicle's had nothing to do with being green (there was no green in the 70’s). It was all about eliminating the need for foreign fuel.

Hello; Not clear what you are trying to say. There was an anti-pollution movement in the 70's but not a "green" energy agenda. Some of the pollution was indeed cleaned up with vehicles and power plants running much cleaner today.
The first production of Hybrids at a commercial scale was around the early 2000's. There had been some small scale prototype non ICE vehicles tried from time to time in earlier years. We were very dependent on foreign oil from the early 70's all the way into the 2000's. We briefly were energy independent for a few years until 2020 and are now dependent on overseas oil even tho the Americas can produce our needs if allowed.
I started keeping freshwater tropical fish in 1959. Kept up the hobby for decades. I joined a tropical fish website in 2011 when i got a good internet service. Had some on that site try to push notions i knew from long experience to not be correct. Not many advantages to being old but having lived thru a time helps keep things straight. I do not doubt some had dreams of an all electric future even back in the 1950's. I read Popular Mechanics over the decades and do recall the future fantasy stuff over the years.
Let me make the point again. EV's may someday be ready for prime time. However they currently have some big hurdles yet to be cleared. The push by legislation and fiat currently going on seems to ignore grounded reality. Sure, the issues may be fixed SOMEDAY. Thing is they are not yet fixed.

This is my problem with EV's. They are being FORCED upon us, even if the tech is not ready. UK you have 8 years.

"However, there may come a point in the future when the use of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) cars will be limited, or they will simply become uneconomic and impracticable to run through a mixture of high taxes, soaring fuel costs, scarcity of filling stations and ultra low emission zones. "

From everything I can find the zero emission return mileage is 65,000. Hardly zero emissions. Enjoy your fantasy.
No one is forcing you to buy an EV, anymore than they can force one on me. You have a choice. ICE engines will cease only when demand Ceases to exist. An all EV future is a fantasy, just like an all horseless carriage future was 100 years ago. Amish still exist.

Yeah, but try getting leaded fuel for you car and actually being able to use it. Things change. Not always for the best but they do. Not everyone likes the change but, like time there is nothing you can do.

No leaded fuel now, but there are still lead additives you can buy.

Oh, of course. But what modern car can use it? People were up in arms when the changeover was announced. Can't image what the uproar would have been if there was social media in those days. Bottom line is that enthusiasts hated it and it still happened. Things change.

So let's make a different combustible fuel. Invent a small atom smasher that can separate the hydrogen atoms from the oxygen atoms in water, Use the hydrogen as a clean combustible fuel, the waste is oxygen. Let's see the tree huggers hate on this. :sunglasses:

Not many cars on the road these days still designed for leaded, but at least those made pre 1970 can have the proper fuel when needed to drive, assuming they haven't been upgraded to hardened valve seats in a prior rebuild.

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon would be required to set up a pilot program for transitioning entire non-tactical vehicle fleets at certain installations to electric power, under legislation advanced by the House.

Even if it ever happens. How do you think they will be charged down range? Granted last time I was deployed was 06-07. Everything was run off of HUGE walk in generators or smaller towable ones! One thing the worries me. The government putting an insane tax on gas to try, and force you to buy an EV. I’m not against EVs. I’m against being forced to buy one.

I think they are pushing to stop ICE car production by 2035? the price of EVs now are crazy! What are they gonna look like by then?

In the UK and some American States the no sell date is 2030. When I cannot buy a NEW ICE car, because they are BANNED, that is being forced.

I keep seeing the horse and buggy analogy. That dog won't hunt because no one ever banned horses or buggies.

I do not know how old you are Dan but if you plan on being around for another 20-25 years, yes you will be forced to buy a non ICE vehicle. Hopefully I'll still be around to see you get it. :giggle: :like:
